Swim
Comments: You know I just couldn't get in a groove on the swim. My sighting wasnt great. I kept running in to slower people which is crazy since I am so slow. I was kind of breathing hard the whole time. It just wasnt very good. What would you do differently?: I really really need a masters class this winter. Even If I can improve from 18:56 to say 17:00 it would put me in the top 1/3rd and I would be happy with that. Transition 1
Comments: I was breathing hard coming out of the water so I semi ran walked up the hill to transition. My 11 year old was yelling "come on, push it push it" I could not get my stupid string out of the back of my wetsuit to get it off. I ended up having to ask someone to get the string untangled for me. Then I could reach it and unzip and everything was good from there What would you do differently?: Run to transition. Practice getting my wetsuit unzipped. Bike
Comments: You know, I thought I had a pretty good bike. 18.3mph average with the wind was about all could muster at my current fitness level. knocking 2 minutes off would put me in the top 1/3rd of my age group. I am going to do some heavy training this winter and hopefully kick the bikes butt next year. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: I guess at some point I need to get some tri bike shoes and learn how to mount and dismount with them. Probably will save 45 seconds total. Maybe no socks??? Not sure if I am ready for that? What would you do differently?: Nothng Run
Comments: I am very happy with my run time. I am not so happy with my run ranking but based on 5 months of couch to sprint I am really happy with it. I have lost 20lbs in 5 months and plan on loosing around 15 more this winter to put me at 173-175. I think I can train this winter and get the time in the 21:xx. The other thing about this run. I was running on edge the whole time. I was thinking to myself "Should I slow down a bit just incase?" I didnt but still thought it What would you do differently?: nothing Post race
Warm down: Said bye to the family. They needed to go eat breakfast. Got a cookie, orange and diet coke. Talked to some really nice people. What limited your ability to perform faster: I am not going 100% for the race. I don't know if I am ready to feel the hurt yet or go to hard and not be able to finish or pass out or whatever. I am going as hard as I can and be able to cross the finish line with a smile on my face. I am ok with that. Will train this winter and should be able to improve quite a bit. Well I set the alarm for 5:30 so I would get there by 7 for a 9am race. I slept well and woke up at 4:30. I went ahead and got up and tried to be quiet going downstairs to the kitchen but our hardwood floors make so much noise I am sure I woke everyone up. Its hard for me to eat at 4:30 but I was able to get a whole wheat english muffin with peanut butter and a bananna down. Started sipping on some G2.
I was like the 4th car in the parking lot.. It was cold and dark. Sat in my car for a bit then I went to register, setup transition and hung out. This really nice (and cute) girl setup next to me. We started talking and found out she had completed the full Vineman a couple weeks earlier. She was very nice. Found out later she won her age group by more than 10 minutes (Sprint)
I did some light jogging and really had to pee. The lines were getting long so I found a spot in the woods. My family showed up about 10 minutes before the swim. They walked down with me to the beach and got to see the start.
