  • Comments: In terms of start times and results presentation, this was a much more organized HFP race than the Great Buckeye Challenge, which I think is a reflection of the tremendous popularity of the Girls Tri held at that previous event. A great way to wrap up the summer.

  • Comments: Huge mistake not to wear a wetsuit. In turn, I had the worst splits of my life in the swim, transition, bike and run. Lesson learned. HFP was very well organized.

  • Comments: It was my first real event and I was more concerned with finishing happy and getting my feet wet. Not too disappointed overall. I have no basis of comparison, but I thought HFP put on a great race and I look forward to doing some of their events in the future. Got a nice shirt and a finisher medal for the entry fee so that was nice. I'm not crazy about a participation prize but my kids (5&3) thought I must have won something since I got a medal :) They must not have noticed the other 500 people walking around with them. I lost twenty pounds this summer due to this crazy idea of doing a triathlon and had a lot of fun in the process. I plan to drop another 15-20 over the winter and get my fitness up a lot higher to start the spring strong. With a couple gifts from Santa, I should be set to drop some serious time next year. Looking forward to it. Thank you to my beautiful wife and 2 great boys for the encouragement through this whole process and coming to see me in my first race. Special

  • Comments: It was pretty well organized. We had a little bit of a late start but other than that it seemed to run smoothly. I like how they call each racers name when they cross the finish line, but they were having technical difficulties when I crossed!

  • Comments: Avoid the water in the water coolers at all cost. It tasted like lake water. Finisher medals- not the way I wanted hardware but its kinda neat. Might frame it as a memento of my first TRI season. It was great to see so many BT people at the race! I wish I had run into more of them, though. I think maybe next Deer Creek TRI we get several camping spots and take the weekend and just hang out and chill.

  • Comments: It was a great time! I'm addicted. Great racers. Even though it was my first time, everyone was willing to help when I asked "stupid" questions.

  • Comments: HFP does great races, this one is odd as there is a sprint/oly/half going at once. I feel bad for the 1/2races as they had to deal with everyone leaving after their races. I think I like the sprints as they are quick and fun.

  • Comments: This was my first triathlon event so it is difficult to compare but I have ran many road races in my life and this seemed to be very organized to me. I probably could have picked a triathlon with a shorter swim for my first, but I made it through so that was a confident boost to my ability. Looking forward to seeing what I can do to my time a year from now.

  • Comments: Triathlons remind me of politics - in this regard. Once Election Night is over, the results are in and the winners and losers are declared, there's nothing left to do. It is what it is. But the next day, the campaign already begins for the next election. Yesterday's race is what it is. I'm now looking to April, to my next race and to moving up in the rankings. After my first race in June, I had this euphoria that lasted for a day or two. I didn't have that this time, nor did I expect to, really. Last time truly felt like a baptism of sorts. That can only happen once. I also wasn't as worn out as my last one. It's probably because of all the training I've been doing. My body's more used to it now. My goal heading into this was to come in under 2.5 hours. I did it. So, 197 people started the race, but two DNF and never made it to the bike. So, the big question is did I come in dead last or did I come in third to last? I'm leaning towards the latter.

  • Comments: I set a clear goal for myself for this day-- go sub-6. It was all I had thought about since my disappointing finish at Racine. But it just wasn't in the cards on this day. While I'm disappointed about my time because I'm just not used to not reaching the goals I set for myself, I also understand you sometimes just have to play the cards you're dealt. I have no regrets about my preparation or effort. This is simply where I'm at at this point in my journey as a triathlete. If I'm not happy with it, well, I have a whole off-season to make the improvements I need to make. Right now, I think that involves simply continuing to build my base to be able to go longer stronger. One thing is certain. I'm really glad I did not sign up for IMMOO next year. My body simply isn't ready to race that distance and finish it at a time I would want to finish it. And I think it will take me a couple years to get there, IF I do decide to set that as a goal for myself at all. Also, now that my season

  • Comments: HFP does a pretty good job at the races they run. I have noticed they tend to run slow, but given the venues and set up it is not always a bad thing. This race was to have started at 8:15, I think they actually went off at 9:00. No one seemed to mind, although I think that meant the roads and officers blocking them had to be out there longer.
