Pre-race routine:

Felt a little rushed for this race... still got to event with time, but had to get my bike into racks pretty quick smart and then straight off to the swim start.

We left home at around 5:30am to drive to Sandringham. Same breakfast as usual (smoothy and toast).
Event warmup:

Quick swim to get used to water conditions. I was initially a bit nervous about the swim, but kinda just went with it and was pretty relaxed just before the start.
Swim
  • 33m 43s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 15s / 100 meters
Comments:

Ended up getting through the swim a little easier than I was expecting.
What would you do differently?:

Try to keep on the feet of people and not just "give up" on people when they pass.
Transition 1
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

Tough run into transition.. 500m from the beach to the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder, run faster!
Bike
  • 1h 16m 45s
  • 40 kms
  • 31.27 km/hr
Comments:

My legs started to feel weak the last 10km of the bike. Not great coming into the run.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. I just don't have the technique / fitness / bike to go much faster?
Transition 2
  • 02m 20s
Comments:

Not too bad... just getting tired and slowing down.
What would you do differently?:

I have to keep on remembering to keep on pushing... The race only lasts another 45mins or so at this point. Suck it up!!
Run
  • 53m 43s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 22s  min/km
Comments:

I was pretty slow. Pretty tired and felt like I just couldn't push any more... but when I tried to push harder for the last couple of km, I was able to.. so need to suck it up and push it!
What would you do differently?:

Go out a lot harder in the start of the run and just try with all my might to hang on at a higher pace to the end.
Post race
Warm down:

I was pretty much totally spent at the end and felt a little emotional. Ended up finding a patch of grass and chatting about the race with my Mrs. Only stretched a little and should have stretched more.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Christmas followed by New Year - Training program went out the window for the three weeks leading up to the race... VERY POOR PREPARATION.
