Pre-race routine:

stayed at the resort which made for an easy morning...up at 4am...2 cups coffee, 2 servings of Bear Naked Peak Protein Ceral w/ Ensure Muscle Health..went back and laid down and shut my eyes til 5 and then got ready to take my bike to transition....started sipping on CytoMax...
Event warmup:

got back from taking bike to transition and put on race suit and wetsuit and we stayed in the room to stay warm "warm up" :)
went downstairs and stood in the lobby til 7 and then made our way down to the water...
Swim

  • 1931 meters
  • 01m 50s / 100 meters
Comments:

great swim..my best one yet at any distance...being my first HIM i was very happy with it...the beginning was tight by the marina and hard to see because of the sun and fog but once i made the second turn i settled in to my pace and felt really good the whole time...

....my swim time didnt show up in the results...thankfully i timed it myself and remembered to stop it when crossing the mat :)
What would you do differently?:

nothing...i swam half the course the day before so i knew what to expect and was mentally preapared which is 90% for me on the swim
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

was longer than anticipated but fumbling with arm warmers and gloves and socks and what not made for a longer T1...didnt end up putting the gloves on...glad i didnt
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 3h 15m 20s
  • 59 miles
  • 18.12 mile/hr
Comments:

very cold at first.....stuck to my plan of pushing it up the hills in high cadence and recovering on the downhills....rode the course twice in training and knew what to expect...had to pee at the turnaround at the second handout station...glad i did because it was very uncomfortable having to pee....after that i cut back 1/2 of my liquid intake since i was not sweating and it worked out just fine....
for having only been riding a rode bike for just over a year now i am happy with my results..starting a winter cycling training plan to get stronger and faster for next season.....
..wind picked up towards the end but was not too bad...was happy to make the turn back onto walden road...
What would you do differently?:

nothing really...been cycling for about a year now and am happy with my results..as long i am getting faster and able to continue going farther distances i cant complain..
Transition 2
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 2h 11m 13s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

i love to run so i was ready to get off the bike and get after it....my longest brick during training was a 50 mile ride and a 5 mile run so i left the last 8 miles a mystery for the race...ran 13 miles on training runs and left the .1 for race day :)

i came off the bike feeling good and stuck with my original plan to hold about 10 min miles.....my training partner gaven passed me about mile 20 on the bike so i knew i had some time to make up if i was going to catch him so i stayed just below 10's thinking i could make up a little time...the first loop felt relly good and the second was just about sticking to my fluid intake and keeping my pace and HR in check...i got a little emotional after the second loop while passing the bagpipes because i knew the next time i came around that was it...i would have completed my first HIM! at mile 10 where gaven and I's cheering squad was, i was told he was only a min ahead of me so i kept on trucking...i saw him at mile 11 and caught up to him about mile 11.5...we have trained together and started this triathlon journey august of 2009 (because he talked me in to doing a sprint 2 weeks before it) and have been there thru thick and thin during this process so when i caught up to him i pat him on the back and ran right next to him just like we were training at Memorial and we shot the breeze all the way to the finish and crossed it at the same time....what a great way to finish our biggest accomplishment yet!!!!
What would you do differently?:

nothing really...my avg heart rate was only 7 bpm more than when i was on the bike..i might could have bumped up my pace a little bit...but i didnt want to experiment too much since i hadnt done this distance before...there is always the next one!
Post race
Warm down:

met up with our group, grabbed a slice of pizza and a muscle milk...didnt finish either one....didnt finish the pizza becuse my stomach wasnt ready to eat yet...didnt finish the muscle milk because...well it just doesnt taste that good....

What limited your ability to perform faster:

first HIM....didnt experiment too much...stuck with original plan that i was confident would work..
