Swim
Comments: Bilateral breathing was a bit difficult due to the emersion shock. Entry and exit were pebbly. Was comfortable at the end of the lap and would have been fine to complete a 2nd lap at that temperature. What would you do differently?: go a little harder in the first 100m & not slack off after rounding the first buoy Transition 1
Comments: Slow T1 long run up from the swim on numb feet. Difficult to change into wind proof bib tights, arm warmers & bike jacket due to the cold rainy weather ~8deg C. Put shoes on sitting down due to being more uncoordinated because of the cold. (NEED carpeting on the gravel in T1) What would you do differently?: Bring a larger transition bag. Bike
Comments: Rained most the bike, the course was a little crowded on the last lap as one overtook the sprint course people. Others said that there feet were freezing, mine did not warm-up much but did a little, fingers started to get cold. What would you do differently?: Drink a little more, only had 1/2 750ml bottle. (due to cold and wet crowded road) Transition 2
Comments: Cold hands made for a slower T2, plus removing bib tights and jacket. What would you do differently?: Not much as I stayed warm on the bike but had more clothing to remove. Run
Comments: drink and eat a little more on the bike section What would you do differently?: need more brick and interval training Post race
Warm down: not much of one, chatted with a few friends What limited your ability to perform faster: cold temps plus the wet weather Event comments: Post race food was good, the race package was better than the Calgary 1/2 Organization and bus transport to get to T! was a bit disorganized. The return of the T1 bags was POOR put out of the back of a truck on the road with no one checking to see that the correct people ended up getting the correct bags. As others have said September in the Rockies one has to expect this type of weather, it could have been snowing or it could have been 30deg C Last updated: 2010-11-28 12:00 AM

Overall Rank = 34/345
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 5/45
Had a bowl of Red River cereal and a glass of orange juice + a gel 30min before the race.
Pre-race air temp was 5-6deg C, so not much in the way of warming up was done. Entered the water about 10min before the race start attempting to acclimate to the 11deg C water temp. (may have been a little to soon)
