Sunny
Total Time = 1h 45m 47s
Overall Rank = 34/182
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 4/16
Event warmup:

Swam a few hindered meters in lake.
Swim
  • 16m 9s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 09s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good solid swim. I got kicked in face in first 50m but instead of freaking me out it calmed me down - as if "OK, that's out of the way, now I can swim".
The key success factor for me was not to go out fast but to purposely go slow for first 100m and then speed up.

What would you do differently?:

Focus on a longer, cleaner stroke
Transition 1
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Only part of the race that was disappointing. I had trouble with wetsuit and just was not 'crisp' in grabbing my gear and going. 30 seconds wasted here. Had trouble putting shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Practice T1 more. Shoes on bike
Bike
  • 50m 48s
  • 30 kms
  • 35.43 km/hr
Comments:

One of my best race performances ever. I rode hard and smart. Gearing was crisp, I drank at just the right times, I was compact, aero and feeling powerful. I passed a number of other powerful cyclists and was only passed by 1 or 2 speed-deamons.
What would you do differently?:

No much.
Transition 2
  • 00m 42s
Comments:

fine T2
What would you do differently?:

Take shoes off before dismounting bike
Run
  • 36m 35s
  • 7.5 kms
  • 04m 53s  min/km
Comments:

I ran my heart out. In the 1st kilometer on the trail I made a wrong turn and gad to backtrack - this cost me 15 seconds and made me frustrated.
The first 4km were too slow (slightly over 20min) but I really kicked it up over the last 3.5km. The best part is that NOT ONE person in my Age Group passed me on the bike or run. That means I made up 3 spots on the bike and kept even on run. I was passed by a handful of few runners but not the usual herds and I even managed to pass a few myself. I'm very pleased with myself for putting together such a run after a hard bike ride.

What would you do differently?:

Study / know the course better.

Post race
Warm down:

Watched the printed leaderboard to see if I placed. Missed it by one spot. Missed the drawprizes as well. At least the burgers and milk were good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim. I need professional lessons to get me down to a 1:30 / 100m

Event comments:

Great race. I think this is now my favorite race in Ontario (maybe tied with Lakeside)
