Swim
Comments: ran out pretty far before starting the swim... quickly fell behind the leader swimmers... I dont know how they do it! must be the technique huh. I felt pretty strong.. sandbar was interesting.. the water was very choppy coming back (on the north side) What would you do differently?: technique technique technique Transition 1
Comments: we were allowed to get on the bike right away before exiting the t zone.. I liked that.. I still was slow though as I put on my camel back, gus, sun glasses , etc... I just suck at transistions I guess, the fasteest What would you do differently?: eliminate my dependencies (camel back and gus) put gus in a little holder on the bike... use cool water on the bike somehow... ... hustle.. Bike
Comments: 20.5 avg.. pretty good. I didn't want to kill myself.. so I knew I could do the run.. its always a balance to know when to 'push it'.. i haven't figured that out.. so I played it safe. this leg I did very well.. but relatively I did below average.. it was all flat pretty much.. so I think I could have done better against the whole group if there would have been more hills.. since I like hills...going down them especially lol. My major strategy was to stay under 3min/mile.. so I am happy with this speed today. What would you do differently?: push beyond my 'safe'guard. Transition 2
Comments: again we got to ride 'into' the transistion area.. I rode all the way up to my spot and took my merry time getting ready for the run.. I felt pretty good.. under 2 minutes is a record for me... I think the riding into the t-zone played a factor obviously. What would you do differently?: nothing.. i dont generally push the t-zones. Run
Comments: wow. I am very happy with my run today. I think the combination of the cooler temperature and my longer run training has had a pretty big factor in this race for me... I almost made sub 8s... which is huge for me. I haven't done then since last may in jump to 10k... never in a tri .. What would you do differently?: Put in my lsd runs. they are paying off... big time. Post race
Warm down: water, nana, cookies.. shade. had to wait till the last biker left the t-zone before leaving.... What limited your ability to perform faster: mental boundaries.... my ability to push harder in the bike and possibly the run. I am saving my all out push for the HIM .. this was a warm up for that.. I feel much more confident about my ability to do the HIM after today... albeit , it still intimidates (the HIM) the hell out of me... Event comments: I really liked this race... mostly because of its ease.. the roads were pretty much flat , the weather was cool... made for a less intensive battle and more of a enjoyable race... I would do this one in a heartbeat again. I think quite a few competitors did this.. as my ranking is usually higher.. I am in the bottom 3/4 for the age group.. which is unusual for me... even with my better then average times... doh! Last updated: 2006-04-17 12:00 AM

up at 6:00 AM, ate 3 granola bars. Drink some gaterade (rain) and a bit of water. Got to race location and setup my stuff... tested out water.. 76 degrees in the water.. it was a bit cold in the morning but got sunny by the time the run kicked in...
just some stretching.. I didn't bother with the swim warmup as I was reluctant to get all wet and then get cold before the race... I was in wave 7, 5 minutes behind each wave. There were 11 waves with roughly 90 people per wave.
