Swim
Comments: Because of how shallow the water was you could walk the first 200m, so I did. I did pay the price with a couple zebra mussel cuts, but I didn't notice till after the race. The waves were very very tough. I am a right side breather (and right side only) so I had to breathe into the waves. I ended up on my back for a stretch just because I couldn't time the waves right to get a breathe. The second half of the swim felt great since it was with the waves and in the harbor. Can't complain too much about the time, was about what I do in the pool at this distance. What would you do differently?: Try to relax more when I had to swim across the waves. I may have been able to time my breaths better had I relaxed a bit. Transition 1
Comments: Was actually one of the faster people on T1 117/809. I even took about 10 seconds to double check myself What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Felt really strong through mile 34 or so. It is uphill for about 6 miles after that which got me. Paced slowed way down and started to get passed by a lot of people that I was passing the in beginning. There was a long downhill that I should have attacked more (only averaged 30, should have been at least 35). After the downhill the road surface got rough which took everything out of me that the uphill didn't. I was happy to get off the bike. This was my first race with bike aid stations. First station I missed the first 3 bottles but got the 4th, unfortunately it was HEED (bleh!). Didn't drop a bottle the rest of the ride. What would you do differently?: I am not sure if there was anything I could have done differently on that ride. I think that the uphill slowed me down, which got to me mentally and I was somewhat timid after that. More training with longer rides is probably the best thing that I could do in the future. Transition 2
Comments: I honestly don't remember too much of this. What would you do differently?: Nothing, I think Run
Comments: This is where the shit hit the fan. The plan was to run at whatever pace I wanted then walk through aid stations. I ran the first mile and walked through the first aid station... then I kept walking. It was extremely hot and humid. I ended up doing a slow run/walk for the entire walk. There were a lot of people walking the course. I saw a couple ambulances drive by and was thinking that I was just fine taking my time today. I did not put in enough run training for this. Hot, humid and painful really says it all. What would you do differently?: I would not have gotten sprayed with the garden hoses as much. My shoes got soggy around mile 5 or so and didn't dry out for a couple miles. Maybe try to run more in the last 3 miles. Other than that, at my run fitness and with the heat there wasn't that much more I could have done. Post race
Warm down: Sat in the community ice bath, which was disgusting but felt amazing. Had some food though I wasn't that hungry (oddly enough). Lay in the grass under the BCTC tent. Passed out some Aquaphor (actually a ton of Aquaphor) What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat, lack of long bikes/runs. This was my first race at the 70.3 distance and was in it for the experience. I hope to take some of the things I learned and perform well at Syracuse. Last updated: 2011-08-09 12:00 AM

Woke up, ate bagel with peanut butter, blueberries and sipped on coconut water. Went to pick up Jon and arrived in transition about an hour before race start (honestly the perfect amount of time) then went over to swim start/club tent and relaxed for about 10 minutes
Swam for about 10 minutes before getting called to shore to start the race
