Swim
Comments: Swim was to be my weakest discipline; I positioned myself in the center / back. Since I was all the way in the back, I only have about 10 contacts with other swimming. Mostly very minor, however, I did see a cut and a small purple bruise on the bridge of my nose. I think I got hit on my face during the swim. My first IM scar, I love it. Toward the last 30 minutes of the swim, I was getting cold. I was so glad that I was wearing swimming sock. Of 2565 swimmer that started IMAZ, I was in 2458 coming out of the water. I was so relieved finish the swim. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Gee, 112 miles is a long ride. This is my longest bike ride ever. My plan was to keep drinking Gatorade, take Gu, and Endurotyte and each Clif bar. I did 3 out of 4. It was too hard to chew & swallow Clif bar during the ride. The plan was to eat 1 bar every 2 hours (total of three), I ended up finishing one Clif Bar. The goal was to finish the 112 miles without cramp or cramping during the first 10K. (I cramped during first 400 meters at Vineman 70.3) Finish the bike portion in position 1833, moved up 625 places. Transition 2
Run
Comments: I was happy I did not cramp during the first 400 meters of the run. I actually ran at 9:40min/mile for the 8 miles. Then I started to switch between run and walk. Both quads were screaming in the 2nd half of the marathon. I finish the run in 5:16:46. Completed 2011 IMAZ in overall position #1650, moved up 183 during the run. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: My goal was 13:00 +/- 1:00, I was happy that I completed my first IM. For the next IM event, I will need to kick-it up a notch for OW swimming. And also better mental and physical preparation for the run. I think I need to do 3 to 5 18+ miles leading into the next IM event. Event comments: Awesome organization and superb volunteers Last updated: 2011-12-13 12:00 AM
