Run
Comments: Took it slow for the first 6-7 miles, unsure how my quads would hold up. Caught up to the 4:00 pace group at mile 8, right after exiting the 163 freeway. Stayed with the group for the next 13 miles. Helped me slow down my pace and conserve for the final couple of miles. Hit Fiesta Island at mile 23 and felt my calves starting to cramp, so I eased up just a bit until the 25 mile marker. Still had some gas in the tank, so I carefully picked up the pace on the last 1/2 mile and finished strong with no quad issues! What would you do differently?: As long as my quad injury issues are behind me, I would log a few more longer training runs, otherwise everything ellse was good. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and got a few more freebies. Jumped in the car and headed for a nice big breakfast at our traditional post-race breakfast spot. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of long training runs due to quad injury. Event comments: I was a bit apprehensive going into the event. I had been nursing sore quads for the past month. I also had not done a training run longer than 16 miles, but I did log quite a few 13-15 mile runs. I also mixed in cross-training, as to not fatigue my quads, giving them a chance to heal up before the marathon. I also did a fair amount of rolling and icing every night for the 2 weeks leading up to the race. I thinks all of that helped me complete the run without any major issues. I did not set a finish time, I just wanted to finish. In fact, I was ready to jump into the half marathon course if I felt my quads acting up. Once I passed the Marathon/Half Marathon split, it was the point of no return! Last updated: 2012-01-14 12:00 AM

Expo on Friday, went to 2 parties on Sat and ate like a pig (ate early in the day), got about 4 hours of sleep. Woke up at 3:15AM, had a small cup of coffee and Nutella sandwich, left the house by 4:20, boarded our shuttle at 5:30 and got to the start at 6:10!
Just a brisk walk to our corral (#9 out of 70!). Had to weave in and out of the crowd, so I guess you can consider that a warm up.
