Swim
Comments: I was not pleased with my swim. I tried swimming slowly and concentrating on my stroke. I got tired very early. I did draft some. Navigation was average but I rounded all of the buoys very well. Had to flip over on my back twice. Had issues with my Garmin, it was not setup in multi-sport correctly. Someone helped me because I didn't have my glasses prior to the swim. Obviously they did something wrong. What would you do differently?: Definitely need to make the swim a higher priority in training. Transition 1
Comments: This was the second time I clipped my shoes to the bike. It was a good decision again since my transition was faster than normal. What would you do differently?: Keep practicing transitions. Bike
Comments: I rode well and got lots of comments when I was passing people, particularly on the hills (yea me). I had Garmin issues that distracted me at the beginning. Midway through the bike leg my chain froze. When I got off the bike, the chain then came off. I put it back on and continued, just a minor inconvenience. Ate a gel on the bike, and drank Nuun. What would you do differently?: Do more intervals and hills in training. Transition 2
Comments: I was a little disoriented during this transition. It took longer than I thought. What would you do differently?: Practice more transitions. Run
Comments: I think the two gels really helped me feel very strong at the beginning of the run. This actually may have caused me to run faster than I should have. I carried my own Nuun since the Gatorade is disgustingly sweet and isn't always mixed properly. This seemed to help since I didn't get into the stop and walk mode at the aid stations. I did pour water on myself to cool the core. It worked. What would you do differently?: Pay more attention to nutrition and ramp up the training. Really practice running negative splits. Post race
Warm down: Walked around for a few minutes and ate a burger and some ice cream. What limited your ability to perform faster: Age and training. This is starting to sound like a broken record. Event comments: High Five always puts on a great race! Last updated: 2012-04-08 12:00 AM

Got up at 5:20 AM. Had bagel with butter and jelly and coffee. Drove 50 minutes to race site. Got body marked and setup transition. Watched the pros start the swim. Had a gel.
Made circles with my arms.
