Swim
Comments: This was every bit as tough as I figured it would be given my first OWS was 2 days earlier. But, while it may have been one of the ugliest swims in the history of the event, I made it!! What would you do differently?: More OWS practice. Transition 1
Comments: So relieved to make it out of the swim, I just started to enjoy the race. But, my inexperience really showed during this transition. Got a lot to learn! What would you do differently?: Practice the transtion ahead of time. Bike
Comments: Did ok on the bike but could have been much better. I was so far towards the back of the pack coming out of the water, I did pass a few people at least. Need to be much faster. What would you do differently?: Train more. Transition 2
Comments: Again, inexperience showed. Took in water and gatorade, and a couple shot blocks. Geared up for the run and took off but was not well organized. What would you do differently?: Organize better. This will improve with experience. Run
Comments: Started at a decent pace off the bike. Slowed after a couple miles and had to walk. No shade, no water and it was getting warm. 1 water station at the turn around. Felt good on the final mile but had to run/walk in 10:1 intervals. What would you do differently?: Improvement will come over time as I gain experience in triathlon. Post race
Warm down: Sat down. Drank as much as I could and ate water melon. What limited your ability to perform faster: Experience and training. Event comments: This was my first full outdoor triathlon and while the time was not that great, I was very happy to get through my first OWS event, with a longish bike and run for a sprint tri. Super nervous. Didn't eat anything. Just got up early and drank gatorade on the hour drive up to Mount Vernon.
Swam in lake for about 10-15 mins.
