Swim
Comments: goggles flew off as soon as I dove into the water so i was immediently slowed up. I was breathing too fast at start and forgot to take slow breaths at beginning. Finally got into a rhythm around 1st bouy. I didn't breaststroke as much as last tri so that's good. Navigation was great. Wetsuit made it easier on body so time was much better What would you do differently?: warm up in water and practice start. I missed the window. Transition 1
Comments: goggle, cap and top half of suit off before getting to stable. Did great running with bike. Transition here felt great. I was able to get up to speed before strapping feet into shoes which doing that for the first time in a race, I did well. What would you do differently?: helmet on then bottom half of suit off. Bike
Comments: I was amazed how gret I felt on the bike. Having the wetsuit on in the swim probably helped toward saving my legs. My nutrition was dead on great. I drank at T1, then gel'd 20 minutes into ride and sipped H20. Then drank 2-4 oz powerade every 10 min or so. Had more gel after another 20 min (mi 20 or so). Kept sipping water. I used the aerobars a lot more this time so neck was a little sore from looking up. What would you do differently?: find an easier way to pop cliff shots. I loved how they worked with my body but hated opening the packinging and the bulkiness. If I used them again, I would open them prior to taping on bike. Transition 2
Comments: Helmet came off first then running shoes on. But still felt fine. I noticed I was standing there putting my hat on for the run when I realized I should be running and doing this. What would you do differently?: I didn't know well enough where to go to run out of the stables. I had to kinda look for it. I would also put shoes on, then grab everything else and run. Run
Comments: legs didn't catch up with my mind till mile 2 or so. It was tough. The sun came out and the heat started to wear on me bc I wasn't able to train in heat like that yet. Water stops were key. I was careful not to drink too much and ate much more this time than at Disney. I popped 2 cliff shots at mile 3 and felt amazing after that till mile 5, then popped another to get me thru the finish. Sipped water and gatorade everytime and threw the rest of the water on my head to stay cool. What would you do differently?: not sure. I don't think the heat is anything I can do anything about when we've had a cool spring up till that day. Training just can't be done in heat if you don't have any. Post race
Warm down: collapsed at finish and went to Med-tent. They gave me icepacks and cold towels and water which was heaven. I may fake a collapse again for that treatment! It helped me not to get cramps. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think I performed at my best. I had stomach flu the day before so that limited me but I still knocked 20 minutes off my last triathlon time so I couldn't be happier. Event comments: Out of all the tri's I've done, this one was best for my ability and was well organized. The finish was great with lots of people lining it all they way down. It was really amazing.
