  • Comments: Except for the mis-measurement and that they had us swimming in lightening I thought his was a very well run event. I guess this is the first year that Ironman ran it and they did a good job. FOr me the race was a confidence builder since it was my first true Olympic distance...I nailed the nutrition...fought through some tough race conditions and qualified for the 5i50 AG National Championships at HYVee (that was very unexpected and very exciting)!

  • Comments: Start2Finish is to be commended. While I was skeptical about the change in venues because I felt the race would lose some of its character, the new venue is exceptional for those of us coming from a long way away with families. The race takes place right on the grounds of the hotel resort, which makes it really nice for family spectators to sleep in and go back to their room when they want. THe nearby Kids Quest facility also allows parents to drop off the kids for some fun while racing or even while hitting one of the nearby casinos (and you know I love the Black Jack.) As far as my performance goes, I've turned in faster times at Memphis in May, but never placed better in my AG. I'm also positive my time was affected by the extended length of the swim and run courses. Still, I was very happy with my result. Really, a great race and I will be back, as always.

  • Comments: Good race. Good support. Facilities were pretty nice and family friendly. Course was flat and fast. Wish the rain would of held off. The pre-race and post-race festivities appeared well organized. We didn't stay after the race, as I had to go back to Memphis and pick up the family. They had decided to stay in Memphis on Saturday night with cousins and because of the rain/storms didn't make it back down for the race, so we didn't have time to attend the post race party. Next year maybe.

  • Comments: As always, the organizers put on a well-run event, although there a few more cracks in the cookie jar this year-- parking was a hassle, resulting in many racers being late to transition, and volunteer support especially at the bike water bottle exchange and other areas was lacking compared to previous years. Of course, some of the reason may be that organizers had already announced they were changing venues for the following year to Harrah's Casino in Tunica, MS. That will be a HUGE change in many ways-- it will probably take away a lot from the family-friendly "picnic" style event which has made this race so beloved to so many people, but it will also likely raise the profile and prestige of this growing race. We'll see soon enough if the trade-off was worth it. I just wish they could put a dome overhead and air-condition the damn thing.

  • Comments: I love this destination race. Its a national qualifier for USAT and the challenge and purse attracts pros and fast AGers from all over the country. They're moving it to northern MS next year, but still close to Memphis. The drive down on Friday and back on Sunday after the race makes for a long, but worthwhile, weekend.

  • Comments: Year after year, an outstanding race, especially for being so big. The only negative was the traffic getting to the site. This was my 6th year doing this race and they changed things up this year with parking and routing you to the race area. It sucked. It took right at 30 minutes to park after I got to the Naval base. In the past it took MAYBE 10. One of the cool things they did this year was to have the Pro racers start after the age groupers. I had actually finished by the time the Pros started at 10:30. I would have loved to watch them had I not had to get home, or it wouldn't have been 100 degrees outside.

  • Comments: This is a well organized event and very well supported. I love triathlon, but will have to re-think doing another Oly if the weather is similar to this year's conditions. I left this tri feeling really beat up. Recovery from it has been particularly slow as well.
