Pre-race routine:

this week I did a lot of mental prep... I knew there was a good chance the race would be altered because the forecast was so dreadful. Love my peanut butter, ww toast and banana.
Chris was so incredibly supportive and took care of my bike issues and listened to me mull through options. SO glad I stayed and tried this race

Event warmup:

I actually did a little run on the beach today!
Swim
  • 00m
  • 5000 meters
  • / 100 meters
Comments:

The run was ok, I was clocked around 36 min but my watch said 32. I really liked the modified run course. I should train when I go visit the inlaws here.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

haha >>fast t1 for me since Chris had removed my shoes and clips earlier this season so I was wearing running shoes. It was a free for all for racking so I got a primo spot for me, back row, lined up with a sign and my big cozumel bag along the fence. I had remembered my plastic bags for helmet and extra gear.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 30 kms
  • 0.00 km/hr
Comments:

I had to remind myself to drink more cause the rain made me forget. I did have a powerade which seemed to be helpful as well.
I actually passed someone on the one and only hill. I was about the fourth last one to come in. Looks like a couple of girls gave up at t2
What would you do differently?:

HAHAHA..... I need to lose weight. I need to learn how to use my bike properly. Bike focus, strength building and good nutrition this off season focus.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

This cracked me up, thank you to the volunteer who warned me about the "swim". The first 25m of the run, due to some sort of surge or sewer back up or something ...... was knee deep water!!
What would you do differently?:

nothing, just keep smiling!
Run
  • 00m
  • 5 kms
  •  min/km
Comments:

I saw some pictures and I am a heel striker! I need to get a gait anaylysis from someone.
What would you do differently?:

I wish I had waited for the girl behind me at the finish line. I think that is etiquette.
Post race
Warm down:

hot shower, warm clothes, coffee then beer

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my weight and my bike skills

Event comments:

John Salt and his crew made good decisions. I highly recommend this race!

Course: obviously did not swim, and of course this is my strength. In the pool I have got my 1500m down to 32min which I am quite pleased with. I agree very much with the call to cancel the swim (both options) today.

well I am not sure if the time is accurate but it was clocked at 1:12 according to my watch it was 1:30 So I had some struggles, but big chain ring and when I hit the sweet spot I dialled in. Could keep my pace 27-30 at times in back end of course
Wind: Some
Course: This is such a great course for me because I am not an accomplished cyclist. The hill or rollers were very manageble. it is scenic and I enjoyed the cows again this year. The roads are the best shape of any course I have ever done. The police prescence was terrific!

Course: This part of the course was miserable due to conditions. But again, because I am so far back of the pack, I absolutely savour and enjoy the other athletes honking and cheering me on as the head on home! So much support and everyone is gracious to each other. What a super sport.
