Pre-race routine:

Got there at the perfect time to find a carpark; hit the loos, set up transition; store my pack in the gear tent and get set. Had a long chat with Jess (Swayerm), watched the long course athletes finish up, scoped out the course and chilled. Worked out that I need to put the BodyGlide on my skin and then squirt conditioner into my wetsuit before I get in. Worked like a charm. My suit practically fell off in transition!

Had a quick swim but nothing to write home about :) Should have put on sunscreen.

This was the most awesome swim leg. The calm ocean just let me control it! Granted, I did have some dude swim directly over the top of me from right to left at one of the turn buoys. Idiot. But seriously, sighting was so easy, and I could breathe both left and right. Honestly, the best swim ever. Even if USM have my results wrong!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing at all. (There needs to be an 'awesome' option when rating the swim!

Suit fell off in one foul swoop - guy opposite blinked at how quick that happened, lol. Great transition. Even better to see I was right up there.

Nothing. Oh, put the garmin on the bike! I forgot but that's minor.

Good ride. 1min slower than last year. Had great fun climbing the hill in my seat and passing everyone! Even better was coming back down the hill and wizzing by a few fellas.
What would you do differently?:

Really not much. The wind was kind of a head/cross wind and had very little advantage on the return trip.

They changed the course and I liked last year's route much better. But Oh ow that hill hurt - right at 9km. Just killed me. My run was okay - nothing special. Sure as hell not the 52:48 from last year! Ran without compression which went well.
What would you do differently?:

Not much really. Just sit back and dig in. I'm slow because (a) I'm a little heavy and (b) a little overtrained.

Event comments:

They forgot the Athena presentations! And then they got our times wrong - I suspect they have us in the wrong wave because our swim times are exactly 5min out. Not happy with that and will let them know soon.

I had a good race and I enjoyed myself. I wanted to beat last year's time, but I missed the mark by 1 lousy minute! I am sunburnt and scrubbing off those tattoo numbers was freaking painful (methylated spirits came in handy) but honestly, I will be back next year. :)
