Swim
Comments: The water was nice and calm which was a pleasant suprise. Crowded start..I didn't stay way to the back like I usually do. The usual elbows and feet...got kicked in the side pretty hard. I had a good swim and no breathing issues. got a few mouthfuls of salt water. There were no jellyfish and no crabs. What would you do differently?: maybe wear aqua socks since there are lots of rocks and shells...would be good for the long run coming out too. Transition 1
Comments: my transitions were the only thing I timed myself on because I know they roll them into the bike. I hate that! slow transition...its sort of a long run down around the side of the whole T area and in the back way, to make it fair for everyone. I had the top part of my wetsuit down, but by the time I got to my spot I couldn't get the thing off my heels. I had to sit and do it...what a pain! Plus we had to bag up our stuff so that they could pick it all up and bring it to the finish later. As I am doing all this I see Kathy come into transition and leave while I'm still farting around! I have no idea how she does it so fast. What would you do differently?: Use something better than bodyglide on my ankles because it didn't work that time. Not wear socks on the bike. Bike
Comments: this course was very crowded in some places Why do people ride their bikes right near the center line and REFUSE to move....ahhhh. I had to pass 2 people on the right. What would you do differently?: get an aerobottle...I don't drink enough. Transition 2
Comments: Wow! this T area sure looks different with all the bikes in it! Panicked for a sec cause I couldn't find my stuff. Found it! Pretty fast for me! What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: I wasn't even a little negative on this run!! Many people flew past me during the first mile. I did pass a few people toward the end. I chased behind an older guy with a knee brace for almost the whole run :) Never did catch him! It was bright and sunny but there was enough shade so I didn't get too hot. This guy passed me and said "isn't this the best day for a run!"...agreed! At the end you have to run through a path around the high school to the finish. There was Glen cheering people on!! Such a great guy! What would you do differently?: Nothing. I'm so happy to be below 10 minute miles in a race! Post race
Warm down: Kathy saved me a diet cranberry soda which was the only thing they had left. Thanks Kathy! We hung out with Glen..who won second place in the police/firefighters category!! Actually I think he missed 1st place by 15 seconds or so. Lets hear it for the fit firefighters!! Kathy was suprised to place 3rd in athena masters. Awesome job! She had a kick ass bike split! I was surrounded by winners! We also hung out with Joe (BOdonuts) and his family. His wife was on a relay team. What limited your ability to perform faster: I am happy with my race. I didn't think I would be able to do it since I hurt my back the day before. Plenty of ice and advil helped a lot!! Event comments: I really enjoy this race. it's well organized. They had some of the streets closed to traffic. Plenty of volunteers at all the turns. I was disappointed that they ran out of water by the time I finished. I didn't see any food either. I would still recomend this race. Its a beautiful area and a fun, safe and scenic course. Last updated: 2006-06-17 12:00 AM

Age Group Rank = 22/40
As soon as I woke up I took 800 advil for my back which wasn't feeling great... but was so much better than the day before. Had cereal, a banana and coffee.
Drove to Duxbury beach to rack the bike and the 1st person I see is KathyG with her headlamp on!...funny! Used the port-o-potty over there. The sun was starting to rise and looked to be a beautiful day, even though rain was predicted. Drove to set up T2 which is in a different area. T2 looks so bare with no bikes... .only shoes.
Hung out with Kathy for a while, and then took the shuttle bus to the start and put my wetsuit on. I brought extra goggles just in case and put them in the grass. My goggles broke last year and I had to swim without.
I ended up not needing the extras but I forgot to pick them up later...oh well they weren't my favorites.
Kathy and I went for a great pre-race swim warmup. The water was freezing on your face at first but you get used to it. I swam for about 8-10 minutes till my breathing felt ok, just like last week.
We were in the last wave so we got to watch everyone else go first...kind of a bummer.
We knew Glen was supposed to be there but we never found him or BOdonuts...Joe.
