Age Group Rank = 3/9
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:30. Bagel with peanut butter and banana. Hour drive to the race site. Very jittery.
Event warmup:

Got sand on the insude of my wetsuit. Otherwise got in the water and sam a little bit. Was running a bit late and too nervous to do much else.
Swim
  • 18m 30s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 06s / 100 yards
Comments:

Poor sighting, swam almost 100 yeards off course then had to go all the way back. Current was pushing me towards the right on the way in and I ignored that fact.
What would you do differently?:

Site more frequently, especially in the ocean.
Transition 1
  • 04m 25s
Comments:

Straps of my helment were tangled when I went to put it on -- slowed me down a a few minutes as I tried three times to untangle them.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my helmet is set before I leave the transition area to start the race.
Bike
  • 40m 35s
  • 12 miles
  • 17.74 mile/hr
Comments:

Could have drank more on the bike. Got too involved in trying to maintain my position. Passed a few people, a few more passed me.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more. Use less brakes on the downhills. Really hammer it out the last few miles.
Transition 2
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

The bike next to my spot wasn't actually in the rack, so it fell on my bike when I tried to rack mine. Spent some time picking both boke up. Other wise went well.
Run
  • 32m 4s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 09m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Leg (calf muscle issues) was really bothering me on the run. Kept getting passed. Knew I could run faster, but it hurt. Wish there were mile markers and more than just the one water stop. Still not horrible to run 9 minute miles when in pain.

Actually found out 2 days after the race that I had torn my calf muscle-- that would explain the pain and slow run time.
What would you do differently?:

Be injury free.
Post race
Event comments:

Wish there were more water stations (I think there was only one at the transition area and one on the run) and mile markers every so often on the bike and run. Otherwsie course was well organized. Age group prize was a nice long sleeved t-shirt.
