Run
Comments: Stayed with the group which helped my pace, even passed a few people. What would you do differently?: Practice more. I just started running about 2-3 months ago, so I did the best I could. But I wish I could pick up the pace which will take practice. Transition 1
Comments: I guess I didn't really hurry. It wouldn't kill me to hurry more next time, especially now that I see that I would have move up several places overall even with a minute improvement. What would you do differently?: Hurry more. Bike
Comments: It went really fast. The passing was nonstop the first lap, but then things thinned out. I wish more people understood they should stay away from the left side unless actively passing. With that many people it was dangerous at times. But the downhills were great and the police support was excellent. I stayed close enough to people ahead of me that they never made me stop. Wheee!!! What would you do differently?: More hills practice. I could probably use more technique practice also since I did tire myself out quite a bit. But I made up a huge amount of time and this is definitely my best sport. Transition 2
Comments: I had a hard time getting my leg over the bike and off running into transition. My legs were totally wasted and the bike was not cooperating. I decided to sit and put my running shoes on, and I felt much better pretty quickly. When I got to my transition area, the women next to me hung her bike really badly. I hope she was a winner to account for taking up two spots by leaving too quickly. Surprisingly the people on the other side weren't back yet, so at least I had room for my bike. What would you do differently?: More bricks. Run
Comments: Walked a lot, so actually pretty glad for the time. I walked up most of the uphills and took advantage of downs. I walked while I had my Gatorade. But, I put on my game face and ran once I was in view of the crowd and finish. What would you do differently?: Work more on running in general. Post race
Warm down: Not enough. Walked around the area while getting pictures, talking to friends, having breakfast. Stretched some once I felt my calves aching (too late of course). What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of running skills Event comments: I really enjoyed it, although there were some key elements that weren't managed well. They never said anything in the packet about when the transition area would close, they put plywood over the train tracks which I think was worse than the tracks, etc. They never said I had to leave my bike sticker on to leave transition at the end. I'm new, as are many who do this race. Give us something to work with please! Last updated: 2006-08-23 12:00 AM

Showered and dressed in clothes laid out night before. Had two pieces of wholegrain toast with PB and an instant coffee. After finishing packing, headed off with my friend Nikki and we stopped at the Holiday station where I got a Starbucks Doubleshot Light as a last minute decision. Struggled with the bike racks in transition because people were taking up WAY too much room (hello - look around...). Waited in line for the porta-potties. Considering it was about 10 minutes prior to the race start and the line was long, I was dissapointed to see non-athletes waiting in line for the potties. Couldn't they wait?
Generally jumped around, jogged in place and danced to the music, I didn't have time for a pre-race bike or run. I also worried that it would be pointless since with such a big crowd any warming up would cool down again before I could really start.
