Pre-race routine:

I had everything packed in the car but still needed my high-maintenance oatmeal, big ass cup of coffee and to pack a water bottle, a C4 bottle and a NUUN with energy bottle. And gels.
Event warmup:

I got there at 8 am after having to stop to pee THREE TIMES but it was cool since one nice guy offered to buy me a cup of coffee and little old men greeted me kindly. I got to the race in time to set up comfortably and with an empty bladder ;)

Comments:

I would not have run so fast if I weren't completely and utterly inspired by the glorious Leslie Battle. She really got me trying my best!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Keep Leslie Battle, bring her home and house her until I'm a perfect athlete ;)

Comments:

Ugh...my bike shoe came untied! quick fix
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my shoes are securely tied before the race begins.

Comments:

Tough ride. I went all out on the run - my last run before this race had a whole minutes per mile slower pace! My bike computer wasn't completely accurate either which messed me up a bit. I depend a lot on watching that little guy.

During the bike, I thought a lot about how this race should be called "Potholes and Massholes". There were a lot of scary potholes (a few years ago one took me out!) and a few (expected) Eastern Mass impatient drivers that actually honked at and cut off a few bikers. The race was run very well but it seems there needs to be more direction of traffic possibly? I don't want to take anything away from the VERY WELL run race. I love this outfit.
What would you do differently?:

Derp. Check my bike computer! Also, I should have given my tires a last pump of air or two. Back one seemed soft.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

I was so done at this point! I knew Leslie was still watching and I wanted to do the best I could for myself as well but MAN that was hard! I was moving like molasses in January during this transition.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure? Practice bike to run perhaps.

Comments:

If Leslie hadn't been emptying her lungs of all the love they could hold, I wouldn't have done this so well! She shouted things like "you can do this, I believe in you...you have 8's in those legs...catch that girl she's only 20 seconds away...now she's 5 seconds away...GOOOOO" It was ...AWESOME.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Maybe find a rhythm? I gave it everything I had!
Post race
Warm down:

I drank a water, hugged Leslie as much as she would let me and made a switch in the Fiske Trailer because I noticed they forgot to make me Athena. I ended up being the only one so woot, FIRST!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training. I was coming back from an injury only a month ago. I really dove in with HIIT, a few longer bike rides with my lovely Sara and an even smaller amount of run mileage. I couldn't of hoped for better results under these circumstances.

Event comments:

This race was fantastically run as always. It's an honor to be a participant. Love these guys. Wendy is awesome.
