Swim
Comments: No matter how many of these races you do someting can always go wrong. That's part of the challenage. Today as I started to enter the water I slipped my goggles off my eyes onto my forehead to adjust my swim cap. All adjust so I jumped into the lake and quckily realised I forgot to bring the goggles back to my eyes. Too late, they slipped off my head and where gone. So I was faced with a choice, rush about the transition area and get my back up pair or swim without them. I decided that the transition area was way to far to make it back in time to start with my wave, so I choose option 2. Swim without them. I would say this was one off my toughest swims in a long time.the combination of no goggles, the narrow course and some really agressive swimmers I had a burtal swim. To get out of the lake they built a staircase on the bank edge and positioned some volunteers along it to help you get out. Since I really couldn't see and couldn't judge distance too well I had a bit of trouble trying to get out and actually pulled my lucky volunteer into the lake as he tried to help me out (he actually only fell on his bottom on the last step- not all the way in about 8" deep). What would you do differently?: put the goggle strapes under my swim cap!Repeat, Put the goggle strapes under the swim cap! It took 2 miles on the bike before my eyes where dried out enough to allow me to see in focus. This was not only a speed robbing mistake but a painful one as well. Transition 1
Comments: The transition area was pretty far from the lakes edge and jogging up to T1 was a slight pain due to not being able to see too good. Bike
Comments: Rode pretty good the whole time. I PR'd this bike leg but I felt laps 2 and 3 should have been alot faster. I got caught up with other people paces and not riding my own pace. I snapped out of it on the 4th loop and ended up passing alot of folks. What would you do differently?: Ride my own pace, and pay better attention to food intake. Transition 2
Comments: uneventfull T2, most of the time was due to the distances between timeing mats. Run
Comments: I could seem to get going and had to walk way too much on the 1st half of the run run and had an extended stay in one of the fine outhouses along the course. although the total pace isn't what I as hoping and training for my pace on the 2nd lap was just under 13min/mile and no walking. I felt the longer I was mving the better I felt. What would you do differently?: I need to train harder on the run. It really bugs me that after all this time my run is still so terrible. The good news is I recover pretty fast.(looking for something positive about my run) Post race
Warm down: The AzTriClub had a tent right at the finish line where we all hungout and recovered after the race and put away some calories in the form of liquid refreshments. What limited your ability to perform faster: THE RUN. Last updated: 2006-09-24 12:00 AM
