Run
Comments: I felt really good starting off but I was holding back trying to pace myself. I fell in with a group that was running my pace. At the 4 mile mark I had to use the bathroom really bad so I stopped off and used it (too much water I guess). Of course my pacers were too far ahead to catch up with so I just paced myself from there. I stopped at every other aid station to get some Ultima, GU or water. As soon as I was done drinking, I started running again. At about the 10 mile mark I felt myself slowing. I walked for about 20 seconds before feeling an imaginary foot kicking me in the butt. I had to tell myself not to stop and to keep moving forward. During the 20 second walk a speed walker passed me up. I thought to myself WTF, I can't let a speed walker beat me! I ran (yes ran) behind the walker for 2 miles until I saw the 12 mile marker at which point I said, "F^$% that!!! Speed walking guy is not beathing me!!!" I turned on the juice and sped up by about 0.25 miles per hour and passed him and just kept going. A little after I turned on the juice another aid station came up and they offered me water, and boy did I want it, but I said that I couldn't stop or I might not be able to start running again. My legs were killing me. I had to tell myself that I tell my legs what to do, they don't tell me what to do. With finish line in sight I thought I would sprint to the finish. After about 10 seconds of sprinting, I realized that I wasn't sprinting at all and that my pace hadn't changed at all. I still kept Moving my arms and legs, willing myself to keep running and crossed the finish line. What would you do differently?: Hmmm... I don't know... get in more long runs as practice I guess because right now my body is spent and I can't move. Post race
Warm down: Walked a billion miles to the car. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough base. I was dogging it the last 4 miles. Event comments: It took a pretty darn good mental effort just to keep moving, but I did it and finishing it felt great!!! The course was well staffed and nice. At every aid station they had water, and ultima. Some stations had GU and some had Gatoraide. All the volunteers were very friendly and towards the end they helped to motivate me on. Drink lots of fluids. Take a GU 45 mins before the race and another 15 minutes before. Pasta the night before.
Walk real fast to the start line. Was running late because our baby sitter backed out and we had to scurry to find another one.
