Run
Comments: Trained through another one of these early races. Legs didn't feel too bad but not race ready. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: The wind was pretty strong. I need a TT bike and aero wheels!! The top 2 guys in front of me in my AG killed me on the bike. I dropped my chain in the first half mile - only the 2nd time it's ever happened in my life. I had to stop after just cresting a hill so I lost a lot of momentum when I had to stop to put the chain back on. What would you do differently?: Not drop my chain - dummy. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Felt OK on the second run leg but couldn't catch anyone in front of me. Post race
Warm down: 15 minute easy run. What limited your ability to perform faster: Trained through this race so wasn't well rested. Just another workout. Event comments: Gear West Duathlon is a great reace and Kevin O'Connor and GW staff really put a lot of effort into it. Post-race activities (grilled hot dogs and tons of equipment giveaways) are excellent. I didn't repeat as winning one of the raffle prizes like I did last year. I could have used the Zipp 808's they gave away!! I adjusted leg distances so that pace per mile running and mph on the bike matched what results said. Although I had extra clothes on for the race due to the cold temps, you can tell I'm packing a few ice cream pounds in the attached pictures!! Last updated: 2007-03-08 12:00 AM

Up at 4 and had a bowl of cereal and bottle of Ensure. Drove to meet 2 guys from our training group for the ride to Orono. Stayed in the van for much of the time to keep warm.
10 minutes easy running with a few striders mixed in. Just before the start I heard someone say "Birkierunner?" - it was fellow BT member mndiver who recognized me from my avatar. Neat to meet another BT'er in person!
