Swim
Comments: This was my first open water swim..ever. I never got kicked so much! I was very inefficient because I had my head up most of the way because I couldn't see in the water, stay on course, or avoid bumping into other swimmers. I had a few good yds of consistent front crawl stroke but most of the way I was sucking in salt water or swimming on my back. It was also a lot further than I thought it was going to be. I thought it would be around 300m or so. Maybe it was, but it felt like I was swimming forever! Transition 1
What would you do differently?: Grab some water and something to eat! Bike
Comments: The Ride was fun and really flew by. This was my first ride on my bike (I just got it last week) so I had some difficulty getting in and out of the foot straps with my bulky running shoes. What would you do differently?: Bring a bottle of water with me..I got a little dry mouth-ed with all the crazy wind going on. Transition 2
Comments: This transition was easy because I didn't wear bike shoes so all I had to do was find the bike rack! That took me awhile because I went down the wrong isle and I seemed a little disoriented. Once I found it I didn't feel like rushing so I took my time getting some water and putting my hair up. What would you do differently?: Find the bike rack faster! Run
Comments: My legs were like JELLO when I first started running. I had to stop and stretch a little bit to wake them up or something. But after about mile one my legs were under me but then it started POURING!! Rain was coming down like missiles into my contacts and I ran blind for a few minutes. I got a good laugh at the finish because I got handed a bottle of water and a sopping wet towel.. I was just happy to have finished What would you do differently?: Run faster!! Post race
Warm down: I had a beer and a nap!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Since it was my first tri, I really didn't know how to pace myself. Looking back, I was barely winded after finishing the bike. My goal for this race was just having fun and finishing. I did them both so I feel it was a success!! Event comments: As my first tri, of course I have nothing to compare to. But I loved it! It was organized and run very well in my opinion. I liked how they had numbered bike racks to help find the bike and a well mapped out course. If it wasn't pouring down rain durin the run, it would have been perfect!! It was nice living less than a mile from Moody Gardens. My alarm went off, I rolled out of bed and headed up to the race. I grabbed a protein bar because i wasn't sure if I could stomach a full breakfast. I really wasn't sure was to expect...this was my FIRST triathlon!!
I didn't warm up, just stretched a little. I was nervous!!
