Swim
Comments: Did a much better job this time than the last 3 races. Was able to navigate (not as well as I'd like, but 100% better than the previous races), breathe and draft without too much discomfort. In fact, this is the first race where I exited the water without being extremely tired from the effort. What would you do differently?: Continue to work on sighting. The way I was navigating kept my head more up than I would like. Toward the end, when I tucked my head better, I could feel the increase in speed. Next time, I'd like to have more of the tucked down feeling. Transition 1
Comments: The swim to bike transition was extremely long. My T1 times compared to the field 26/55 in AG and 171/352 overall. So by comparison, I did ok on the transition. What would you do differently?: I need to work on having my shoes attached to the bike and I could exhert more effort to get there quicker. Bike
Comments: The road was extremely rough compared to my other races. I almost lost my aerobottle twice and myself once. The aerobottle came loose about 3 miles in and I was holding it with my forearms while in aero. I knew I couldn't keep this up so I had to stop and lost 0:30 to 1:00 getting the bottle reattached. The about 3 miles to finish, I wasn't directed to turn at an intersection until I had passed through. Lost another 0:15 to 0:30 there. What would you do differently?: I would have benefited from knowing this course better so that I could have attached my stuff better and wouldn't have missed the turn. Transition 2
Comments: In this transition, I was 37/55 in AG and 189/352 overall so again an average performance. What would you do differently?: I need to learn to ride on the top of my shoes and put more effort into getting the bike racked quickly. Run
Comments: I didn't consume enough water or electrolytes on the bike and suffered in the heat on the run. The air was stagnant in the valley area. What would you do differently?: I would drink more on the bike. By the time I was cramping on the run, it was too late. If I could keep a normal pace here, I would have made a nice improvement in time. Post race
Warm down: Walked down and massaging cramped quads. What limited your ability to perform faster: Didn't drink enough, right stuff on the bike and suffered on the run. Event comments: Very well organized, enjoyable race. I need to be better prepared next time. Last updated: 2007-05-13 12:00 AM

Up at 5:30, eat a powerbar and water. Rest. This time did not eat 2nd powerbar and felt better as far as stomach was concerned. At 6:00 loaded up truck and to venue by 6:15. Signed in, marked, got timing chip.
At 6:45 did running warmup for approximately 1 mile to get heart rate up, stretched a bit and then into race clothes. At 7:15 swam about 200 yds as warmup and to get a feel for the water.
