Swim
Comments: Although swimming is my definitely downfall, my time still should have been better -- EVEN WITHOUT THE MAGICAL WETSUIT-- due to my poor navigational skills for this race. However, now I know I can swim the distance on choppy waters without the wetsuit and, despite the above mentioned navigating skills (OR DEFINITELY LACK THEREOF) felt very relaxed -- which is a nice jump from not being to swim a lap less than two years ago. THANK YOU TERRY LAUGHLIN! Hopefully there will be MORE orange buoys for the SC Half. What would you do differently?: At least now, with some major practice on my open water navigational skills (PLUS GETTING BETTER ON MY BILATERAL BREATHING), perhaps I will not go far to the right of the orange buoys and swim only the alloted distance as opposed to at least a good 1/10th of a mile more. Transition 1
Comments: The chain was off when I started moving the bike so that screwed up the good ol T1. Othewise, the transition was nice. What would you do differently?: Make certain that I can put a chain back on quicker if it happens again. Otherwise nothing. Bike
Comments: The ride was good in general, though with more weight training and hill practice (which comes by still doing my road trips to Orangeburg/St.Matthews -- since Charleston has only one hill: THE RAVENEL BRIDGE). I also wish the lane was wider at the end of the ride (particularly when you entered the park with runners and bikers on the same side of the street) since it was virtually impossible to pass people. Thus, some time could have been shaved off on my bike stage. What would you do differently?: Nothing but maitain this speed (or preferably improve it) for the longer hilly bike rides (specifically for the upcoming SC Half). Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Do everything quicker but am glad I took the extra time in this heat to make sure I had all I needed for the run. Run
Comments: It was definitely not a PR for me but in this heat I am not complaining one bit. I played it a little more conservatively in the beginning of the run (due to the heat again) and am glad I did since I did not cramp and had energy left to have the final 2.2 miles as my fastest. What would you do differently?: Nothing in this heat. Post race
Warm down: Had the sandwich and jumped into that lake. What limited your ability to perform faster: Below average navigating in the water; the heat during the run. Event comments: Please have more visible buoys in the water. NEED A LOT MORE PORTALETS!!!!!!!. That would be nice for the upcoming SC Half. Better food at the end of the race.
