  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: Rating this race is based heavily on the swim being so far off, the sprinklers flooding T2, and the threat that if you came into town you might have to stop because the train won't stop for athletes (setups events is going to redesign the course for next year). Overall this is a nice race in a great small town.

  • Comments: Nice lake swim, fast and fairly flat bike, and flat, shaded paved trail to run on. I will do this race again. Only a few negatives, in addition to not providing the last 25 finishers with any water, which is really inexcusable. It's water, not wine. Another reason to keep training and get faster! This year the race ended in Uptown Greenwood, which is a really pretty downtown area. But nothing is open on a Sunday in SC. My husband and son came to watch my first Oly since it was 2+ hours away and I was going to stay in a hotel. There was absolutely nothing for them to do while I raced except spend time at a little city park. Not a single coffee, donut or other food place was open on or around Main Street, mush less anything else, even by the time we left at noon. They were hot and bored but good sports about it. I would have rather finished at the lake like originally advertised so I could jump in and cool off. When I registered the race was supposed to finish at the lake, which

  • Comments: The race course itself was very well marked and volunteers were enough to keep aid stations stocked but there were not so many that they got in the way of racers. My only real complaint was the finish area. There were very few volunteers at the finish line and no one to cheer for finishers other than the competitors that stuck around for lunch and awards. They also did not give out any kind of finishers swag. I know $75 for an international is not very expensive but I would have thought there would be more than a cotton t-shirt and some sandwiches for lunch. No beer, no medal, no finishers gear, etc.

  • Comments: Everything was great with one exception and I think this a big no - no. Once John and I returned to transition to retrieve our bikes and other stuff, Setup had already taken down the barriers and there were no Setup staff members around. Everyone's bike and equipment were there for anybody to walk up and take. To me, that's unacceptable. I want to try to support Setup with all of their races, but I will not if this continues.

  • Comments: I like this race a lot. If I ever learn how to swim, I will do it right (taper, sleep, pace, etc.) and see what I can do. Anyway, even treating it as I did, I took nearly 8 minutes off of last year's time, so something is working.

  • Comments: A good race. I'm glad I did it. Since I won AG, I hung around for the awards, which took a while, but I had nowhere to go. I'm really pleased overall with how I did, especially because Olympic is my worst distance, and this swim was long to boot, and not wetsuit legal! (NOTE: Overall rankings include the OPEN competitors, which is why they look kind of low compared to AG.)

  • Comments: I've put in some decent training volume over the last several months. I was really hoping to have a stellar year but out of the first three races I've been diappointed in 2 of the 3 race times. I might be expecting too much out of myself. The extra training doesn't seem to be making much of a differnce in my race performance. I think I will be taking some time off to re-evaluate my training plan and focus.

  • Comments: I am still wondering when I am going to get some cycling power and endurance. I know cycling takes a long time to develop, and I have only been riding for a year, so I really just have to try and be patient. What sucks is that running is my strength but my legs are so fried by the end of every bike leg that I can't really flex the run. But all the negativity aside I qualified for AG Nationals which was the primary goal of the day, so I can't say that is wasn't a successful effort.

  • Comments: One of the interesting things... I finished about 1:30 ahead of the 4th place girl. Had that novice female that I thought was in my age group not passed me and triggered my competitive side into digging deep that final mile, I probably would have taken another walk break and I might have lost that 1:30. So, in essence, her passing me and me trying to keep up with her probably is what gave my my 3rd place finish! I decided to stick around for the awards ceremony, not because I thought I had chance to podium, but because I thought they might do some cool give-aways. I saw the visors up on the table and thought they were really cool and I wish I could have one. They did do some give-aways, I got a cheapy visor that will be good for pool time and yardwork. Then they started doing the awards. I saw the lady take the results and post them up on the porch of the clubhouse, so I decided to mosey on over there and see what my official time was. When I looked at it, they already had the age

  • Comments: Lots of people cheated on the swim by missing the first turn buoy and were never made to go back. Too bad because this was a qualifying event for nationals. The event details stated that there would be gels on the run - no gels. Post event food was not great - I was expecting Outback since that's what was served in previous years. But the race course was pretty good and the competition was excellent. Lots of fast racers in this event.

  • Comments: I'll do it again next year. Other then the swim directly into the rising sun, the lake is a great swim and the full distance cannot be seen from shore so it is less intimidating. Well marked, roads a little rough for long stretches. Nice rolling bike ride, no serious hills. I liked the lay out of the run because mile ~3.5 to 5 is a rolling straightaway and you can see the turn for the last mile into the park where it's mostly downhill and shaded.

  • Comments: I think I need to start competing to have fun and not for time. I am reaching the conclusion that I will probably never be competitive on the bike or in the water, so I may as well just have a fun and forget about time.
