Swim
Comments: This was by far the fastest swim I've ever had. I used a strategy I've been wanting to try. Start on the outside, get a good line, pass all the people that are thrashing and kicking in the beginning. Then round the buoy and kick it into high gear. It worked. I had clear water for the first 150yds...passed the washing machine, rounded the buoy and by that time everyone was getting tired from thrashing but I was fresh. I was 28th overall in swim time, but about 5th or 6th out of the water in my wave. My strategy worked!!! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Perfect swim. Transition 1
Comments: I'm starting to realize why I get positions in T1. Many athletes don't know how to properly mount their bikes. The stop at the mount line. I passed four people at the mount line. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Wow, I was completely blown away at how fast I did this bike. I got passed a few times by some of the really fast bike guys but I managed to pick up a few AG spots on the bike. I just hammered hard, I wanted to average 22 and I got 23 so I'm very happy with that. Wound up coming into T2 in 20th place by crossers, 21st by time. What would you do differently?: Nothing! Transition 2
Comments: Just as easy as they come. Throw and go. What would you do differently?: Nothing! Run
Comments: Lost two spots...one VERY early on, and never was able to pass him but I did stay within 30 seconds of him the whole run. Wish I'd have just pushed it faster here. I know I'm capable of a better mile 2 than I had (7:57). I've been pushing so hard on the bike that my legs get tired at Mile 2 and I have to do a gel to get back on track. Next time I'll take a gel in T2. What would you do differently?: Run faster!!! Post race
Warm down: After finishing, I got lots of water, and walked around. Waited for Brian to come in. Found George, took some pics, cheered Brian in. Then it started pouring...had a nice cool shower. Got some dry clothes on, went to dinner, drove home. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think my limiting factor here was my run. I think I am still recovering from my lung infection and they don't want to fully inflate just yet. My chest got tight around Mile 2. So I'll be watching that closely. Event comments: Crystal River races are always good. Fun and well organized. It's becoming a very FAST race though. I pulled a sub-1-hour time and still only managed 29th overall out of 152 and 8th of 14 in AG. 10 of the 14 in my AG were in the top 40. There are some FAST people in my AG!!! Drove up, got the bike ready, had a pop tart and some Gatorade.
None. Took a gel right before the start and washed it down with water.
