Swim
Comments: Good swim for me. I had always worried abou tthe swim in every tri that I had attempted, but this one did not scare me or even feel uncomfortable. The fact that it was faster that tne first sprint swim I did last l\May speaks volumes to the progress my swimming has made. Not to mention that 2.4 miles in open water was the furthest I ever swam. :) What would you do differently?: This coming year I need to actually drop-in on masters swims a couple of times each week and work on stroke dynamics. Transition 1
Comments: Was way to relaxed on this transition and not knowing what to expect in the changing tent lead me to taking too much advantage of the break. Digging my bike gear out instead of putting it at the bike was a bit tricky as well. What would you do differently?: Move faster~! Treat it like a real transition. Bike
Comments: My biggest boo-boo on the bike was gettin gsunscreen in my right eye. It was tearing up so bad that I rode "one-eyed" the majority of the time . the little bit of head wind that we had on the bee-line highway flared this eye up more than I could imagine. What would you do differently?: Next IMAZ I plan on taking greater care of how sunsceen is applied to my face as well as I am now in the market for better sunglasses (I am thinking goggle type) to reduce the wind in my eyes. Transition 2
Comments: Once again I rested too much in transition. I spend too much time on my fuel belt and working my running gear on. What would you do differently?: Need to treat transition like a part of the race and not a big rest stop. Run
Comments: Biggest area to work on for next race. this is the portion of an Ironman race that I can shave the most time on as I walked up to 2/3 of the distance. The first 8 miles went well and then run turn to jog to shuffle to trip walking - until I decided that my goal was to finish and I had plenty of time to make that happen. Hence walking. What would you do differently?: Need to really work on run endurance this year! :) Post race
Warm down: 1/2 slice of Pizza and a walk back to the car to laod gear. What limited your ability to perform faster: Most of my real issues were during the run. Even with sunscreen in my eye, my Bike was slower but not unreasonable. Event comments: I "borrowed" a photo from cactus steve for this report - but his is a race that photo buying is high on my list! :) Many thanks to my freinds and peeps on BT. Without them I would not have come this far in the last 1.5 years. Also, a special shout out ot all of my ESCKTC pals - especially those at the race - that kept me going and saw me finish. Thanks to all of you - I AM AN IRONMAN!!!!!!! Last updated: 2008-01-14 12:00 AM
