Swim
Comments: When I looked out at the lake and seen the course ..I'm like "oh my god I am not going to be able to do this!!." But when I got into the water and started swimming I just told myself that I am going to get through this no matter how ugly..I didn't stop at all.. I just did a bunch of different strokes..including the back stroke.. I seen other people doing it so I thought what the heck I will do it too..:) Anything to get me through the swim part!! THere was a group of us that gave each other encouragement during the swim which was great. I can't even begin to describe the feeling when I finally touched land!!!!! After that ordeal I was fine and all that nervous energy disappeared. What would you do differently?: What can I say..Swimming in the pool is not at all like doing OWS.. I should have done more more open water swims because 4 is definitely not enough especially for someone like me who has a fear of OWS. Also I really need to learn to relax when doing these types of swims. Because of my extreme nervousness I could not get enough air in when doing the crawl and I panicked.. so I had to resort to other strokes that did not require me to keep my face in the water... Transition 1
Comments: Yes, I did have a crappy transition time after the swim because I had to pee from all that lake water I swallowed. I guess I should have peed in the lake but I couldn't do that to my fellow swimmers since we were in such close proximity to each other..LOL!! What would you do differently?: I wouldn't brother trying to put socks on. Maybe next time I will try to pee in the lake if I am not in close proximity to my fellow swimmers. :) Bike
Comments: The bike ride went well. I was strong on the hills. The only thing that worried me was getting a flat. The roads are not in the greatest condition along the River. Beautiful ride though. What would you do differently?: When I muster up enough courage I might try clipless peddles. It's just that I have seen people fall because they couldn't get their foot out.. Not Pretty! Yes, I know I could increase my speed if I had them but I would be too worried about falling thus taking away the enjoyment I have for biking. So we will see... Until then I will have to do my best with the old fashioned peddles. :) Transition 2
Run
Comments: Trying to push through the "Jelly Legs" was an awful feeling. What would you do differently?: I made the mistake of stopping to walk for a short while.. I should have pushed through the initial discomfort. I just prolonged it by stopping to walk. I need to do more brick training and more bike/run drills to get my body use to the transitions. Post race
Warm down: I am so glad I did this event and so thankful that I did not back out at the last minute. The whole training process and this event allowed for me to grow and realize my strengths. Last updated: 2008-02-24 12:00 AM

Since this was my first TRI I was extremely nervous about the swim segment and I was losing confidence in my ability to finish. With that being said I maybe got 2 hours of sleep.. I could barely eat a bowl of oatmeal in the morning ..ugh..I managed to keep the carb gel down for pre -race nutrition.
I got to the race site at 5:00 a.m. and had no problems thanks to this nice guy who gave me the low down on where to go for body marking etc. etc.
I did a lot of stretching..Especially my shoulders due to an over use injury in my right shoulder.
