Pre-race routine:

Woke up 4:35 had a PBJ sandwhich, some coffee and gatorade.
Arrived right at 5:35
Event warmup:

Swam a few 3x50M laps in pool.
Swim
  • 08m 22s
  • 383 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Waited a long time to go. Took my time as I am not a good swimmer and still learning. BOY I am slow at swimming 14th out 18 in AG , 241 out 380ish - Not so good!
What would you do differently?:

Go faster as I was too cautious and wanted to just make it through the swim. Also, not have accidentally kicked the girl behind me on the last lap! all I was thinking was get to the ladder and we were both making a bee line for it.
Transition 1
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

Boy was I slow. Did not have any sense of urgency as was so happy to get swim over with.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster from pool to outside Transition area and not dry my self off too much
Bike
  • 37m 4s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Quads got tight very early on!
What would you do differently?:

Push harder during bike. This portion was the one I was most disappointed in as I have been biking quite a bit
Transition 2
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

Another slow transition. What can I say - this was my first tri!
What would you do differently?:

MOVE IT! buy the quick zip shoe ties or whatever they are called as I had to retie my right shoe twice and almost forgot my bib number.
Run
  • 20m 27s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

Yes my running background finally comes through. Passed around 18 people and averaged 6:33pace. Was first in my AG in run and 11th overall out 383. I think I could go faster if I actually did more than 1 practice bike to run brick. Legs felt tight first few mins and then loosened up 1/2 mile in.
What would you do differently?:

could have pushed a little harder if I new where the 2 mile mark was.
Post race
Warm down:

stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

MY First Tri - just nervous about swim

Event comments:

FINALLY My first TRI! cant wait to improve. I really felt I left 4 to 5 mins out there - mostly on swim and bike. I need to practice transitions as I never have before. I also only did one bike to run brick practice, so overall I am very HAPPY about my performance!!!!!!!!!!!!
