Swim
Comments: really pleased with the swim. I had over estimated my time and was in and out of the pool to the changing tent in 13 minutes. I had estimated 18 minutes. the good part was after I passed 3-4 people I had clear water ahead What would you do differently?: better estimate of time Transition 1
Comments: unknown time in transition as it happens in two parts with a run between. I did have leggings to put on over the swimsuit due to the cold and was slowed up for a bit with the wet legs and trying to get stuff on. Run from pool area to the bike is about 500m. good run through the bike transition and found bike immediately. Had a power bar to eat but stuffed it in my jersey instead. Gloves on after riding. Happy with the bike portion of the transition. actual, well official times to follow when posted. What would you do differently?: Bike shoes with velcro, different leggings, Bike
Comments: Bike was a nice pace, I didn't drink enough early on but after 15 minutes smartened up and made up for the brain fart. Riding an almost new bike is a dream, no bike issues, felt fast looked slower. Thought about a bite of food for the ride but was well ahead of my time and was focused on the drinking and didn't want to bloat. Spun most of the route with a good out of the saddle push on the 16th street hill for both laps. What would you do differently?: Push a little harder earlier and more liquids early and then ease the pace coming into the run Transition 2
Comments: Again no known time for the transition but in quickly found running shoes, one the ground with both shoes off/on, gloves off, running in a hurry. very happy with this change as my bike shoes are laced and I can't step out of them as I ride. What would you do differently?: looking into Velcro closed riding shoes, but really I love these cleats and don't really care about the extra minute. Run
Comments: Good run, this was my first tri and first time completing all three events in on session. training was only bricks with swim to bike and bike to run. never the trio. Legs felt good coming off the bike but was labouring with breathing for the first km. settled into a good pace for me and kept an eye on the finish distance. Nice to run in the sunshine and watching the really fast people rip past me!! Of note was photo number 4, my folks came to watch and my Mom ran beside me for about 20m out of the transition, she's wearing the white coat. Hey, I'm over 40 and was the youngest kid. Mom's still got some attitude!! What would you do differently?: Just keep on working to be the best St. Bernard I can be. run a bit, run a bit more and then a little more running. :-) Post race
Warm down: Met with #1 fan and rest of family, ate banana, cheered on other racers then LUNCH!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: More time on the bike getting used to not riding in group as I'm responsible for the pace all the time. More training for running but this is coming along. Event comments: Great race with lots of organizers, this was my first race so it gets a 5 stars and for me a personal best. Breakfast of multi toast, banana and decaf tea, drive to University and had #1 supporter drop me off near the bike transition. Dropped of Bike, shoes etc.
Walked to the pool and picked up timing chip lots of folks around making sure you get to where you need to be.
Changed locked up gear (including said timing chip) swore, openned locker, got timing chip, had to get more change for the locker. lesson learned, early is a good thing.
Walked to the check in sight and found that I was swimming only 700m and that it was outside. No issues as the pool was heated and we were mashaled indoors until just minutes before the start.
Not much room for a really good stretch but did the best I could. talked to a few other first timers to the event. tried to keep warm away from the open doors.
