Also was having some swelling in my feet and arms, more than normal. I took water at every water stop except one (the last one). My calves were on the verge of cramping the last 3-4 miles, so I backed the pace off. I did try to kick it when I hit 26, and did make up some ground, made a charge on a few guys, but they had more gas left than I did, and they covered the gap. Very weird, but I don't know if I even started sweating until about the last 3 miles, or so it seemed. No salt to speak of on my face or clothing, unusually little. What would you do differently?: Well, I wanted to run my own race. I started with the 3:10 pace group, but, they went out in 7:08 mile 1, panicked, and dropped the pace way back. I was already in that groove, so I went off the front of that pack from mile 2 on. They recaught me in Fort Story, I stayed with for a mile or so, then let them go, as they were negative splitting, and alas I was not. Post race
Warm down: Stumbled around a bit, regrouped. Got a Yuengling and some Irish Stew (YUM, YUM, THAT WAS GOOD STEW!), took a few photos, then went to freshen up, check out, and go find the Dairy Queen. We then hit the road (my lovely, loving wife, offered to drive us home-AWESOME!!). Stopped on the way home at K&S Cafeteria, got some good veggies and a salad, and a SWEET TEA (they don't know what that is in VA) What limited your ability to perform faster: Not sure yet. Hydration might've played a role, but I felt like I was taking a ton in. Event comments: A PR by 13 minutes, and a Boston-qualifying time. I'd say it was a good race :) Last updated: 2009-01-07 12:00 AM

Pre-race dinner was all-you-can-eat spaghetti marinara at Doughboy's California Pizza Saturday night. Got in the bed around 9. Woke up around 3ish, but able to go back to sleep. Up at 4:45ish, had a peanut-butter-banana-and-honey sandwich and a vanilla shake Ensure. Good breakfast! Then sipped on a bottle of GU2O until departing for the race at 7:20.
Jogged up to where the race route enters the boardwalk, then ran back down to King Neptune statue, then walked over to the race start. Only a few blocks to walk, nice morning. Took a Mint Chocolate Gu 15 minutes before race start.
