Comments: first Tri I've done in 18 months so I forgot how confusing it get's with 40 other people fighting for that first buoy. What would you do differently?: maybe get on the outside of the buoys a bit more to get away from the pack a bit. overall though i felt great. Transition 1
Comments: not sure what the time was as there were no splits. What would you do differently?: didn't run out of the water but i think i could have. transition dry runs that i did the week before really helped, not putting on the shirt with race bib and no socks with riding shoes was a good idea too. Bike
Comments: at 3.5 miles in I realized I had a god pace going, my average speed to that point had been 21 mph. at 4.25 miles in I realized my legs felt great. I was feeling awesome about how well I was doing and realizing my was going to crush my projected overall time. at 4.75 miles into the 9mile bike my bike I heard a snap and realized a spoke on my back wheel broke, this warped my tire and eventually slowed my average speed down to 16mph due to the rubbing against the brake pads. but i made the call to keep on riding until the wheel fell off and rode like this for the last 4 miles. What would you do differently?: get the bike looked at a week before any event. Transition 2
Comments: got everything off and on fast. felt good about it. What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: legs felt like jelly for he first 3/4 miles. think this was due to the extra effort to get through the bike due to the spoke issues. at the 1.25 mark i finally found my pace and kept it through the rest of the way. did not stop to walk once and that was an achievement. very happy about the overall performance. What would you do differently?: only thing I think I need to do is more miles in training and get my pace times down. my shins were not at all an issue. Post race
Warm down: walked around had a bannana and OJ but nothing specific. What limited your ability to perform faster: spoke breaking on the bike screwed up my bike and run but really only by 5 or 6 minutes i think. Event comments: my personal goal going in was to get under 1:30 and i did that even with problems so I'm very happy with the outcome. can't wait for the next one. Last updated: 2009-03-21 12:00 AM

still no real routine but I make sure to hydrate very well for the two days leading up to the event, had oatmeal at 5am knowing that my wave start was at 7:55.
stretching and a few laps in the water just before the start.
