Pre-race routine:

Up at 6:45, plain bagel with a little butter, a large banana, orange juice, and a half a cup of coffee.
Event warmup:

Walked over to get our timing chips and watched everyone else run around! Didn't want to waste any steps.
Run
  • 1h 53m 24s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 09m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Pretty congested through the first part of the race and again later on the sidewalk portions of the bike path. Add in some roadies who were flying down the bike path on John Nolen drive with complete disregard for the racers. Pacing was uneven due to congestion and some of the narrow parts of the bike path. Cruising along at 8:45 miles and then slowed down to 9:27 miles several times with no way to get around people.
What would you do differently?:

Carry water. The aid stations were 5K apart, which I knew before the race. The temperature warmed up quickly and I could have used more water, more often. Not a smart move on my part.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and did a lot of walking and stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I don't run that much, 2-3 times per week. I am sure I could be a faster runner if I worked at it.

Event comments:

More aid stations is the only issue, everything was extremely well done. Capitol Brewery beer, a live band, fruit, bagels, animal crackers, pretzels, plenty of water, and chicken wings at the finish. Nice technical t-shirt. Great race for $20 entry fee.

Performance: Good
My time off the Garmin was 1:52:48 and a distance of 12.48 miles. Gender place-126 out of 280.
Course: Started in Monona at Winnequa Park. Through residential areas and then on to the bike path around Lake Monona. Some pretty hilly parts to my surprise.
