Swim
Comments: This was the first traditional run from the beach wave start I've done. Some contact with other swimmers, not too violent. I started BOP and shouldn't have. I got trapped behind several breaststrokers. Otherwise, my sighting was good. What would you do differently?: start FOP corner. Transition 1
Comments: still way too slow. It's like my brain won't think what to do next. I forgot to rinse feet on the way in. They had water tubs on the sidewalk just prior to T1. I had to rinse my feet then sit to put on shoes. I ran with the bike but had several tries to line up my pedals properly. Forgot to drink after GU. Yuck. What would you do differently?: rubberband pedal line-up. Can I figure out that scary shoe on the pedal trick? Terrifies me - may need tranquilizer prescription first... Bike
Comments: dropped 2 minutes off last race's time (other direction, one month previous). I felt much better on the hills and actually PASSED some people for the first time ever, and (mostly) they stayed passed. My bike computer showed 48 minutes or so and a 15.5mph avg/27.3mph max. The difference between that and my official time is probably the several false starts/pedal resets I had to do to get started. suck at that, oh yes I do! What would you do differently?: keep practicing. I'm getting better every time I ride. I'm finally strong enough to use all my gears and decent at shifting and turning. I still need to up the cadence and work a LOT on mounts/dismounts.I also need to learn to drink on the bike so I don't need to at T2. Transition 2
Comments: I can't imagine getting my feet out of my shoes while on the bike. I understand it is actually possible... I did jog with the bike, stumbled a bit racking it. Lost time putting on socks/drinking. What would you do differently?: try running without socks to check whether I can do that without blistering. practice this Run
Comments: my lack of training last month really hurt me. I pushed harder on the bike and had little left for the run. Oh well... What would you do differently?: keep training. learn some magical way to do without sleep so I can train and meet my family/work commitments. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of training time during the month prior to this race. Head cold. migraine. crappy night's sleep due to cold/headache. Event comments: good fun. well run. The results were posted online the evening of the race! The T-shirt is gorgeous - a red technical. I can't wait to race this one again next year--- without a month's rest period! Last updated: 2009-04-04 12:00 AM

up at 4am after 6 poor hours of sleep. I had a cold and migraines that just wouldn't go totally away. I was very well rested as I had a month with almost no training time due to family and work commitments - 1 hr/wk on the trainer, if I was lucky. Not so great for my first season/4th tri.
ate my usual oatmeal and coffee. added in a real Coke on the drive up. got there about 6:30 for nasty long packet pick-up lines and a separate marking line. topped it off with some mega-Aleve, and pseudoephedrine cold tablets.
The rain/mist finally stopped and it was dry and unseasonably cold.
The lake was warmer than the air. I swam out to the second buoy and back to shore a couple of times. I stayed in the water until force out and wrapped up in a towel while I waited for the women's wave. I wanted a wetsuit for the air temp, not the water! Most of us were shivering.
