Run
Comments: The plan for the race was to cross the line with my wife in 2 hours. We were running together (is her first race after Noelia) and we haven't had the 'optimal' time for training, in part because of the weather, which didn't allow us to run together (and the brand new running stroller) in the afternoons. To get to the 2 hour mark I new that we needed to run around 9:20 a mile, and I was in charge of pacing. First mile passed fast (under 9:30) considerinig the crowded start... and after that every single mile went below 9 minutes. I tried to keep her on a 'slower' pace... but she felt good and I didn't want to slow her down. I provided the water and stopped in a couple of aid stations to refill the bottles (besides of water we planned on drinking/eating only staff we had with us). The people cheering on the sides were great, but I did miss a bit the 'live music' other years we enjoyed. By miles 6,7,8, and 9 we increased the pace to close to 8:30 a mile (way to fast... I thought), and we slowed down a bit after mile 9, to end up strong in the last mile. I'm very proud of her, and she is too (I think she called twenty people from the finish line)... To bit thi time she will need to start training harder now :) I took the race as a 'mental preparation' for a marathon. I don't think I will be doing anyone this year (besides the IMKY), and I wanted to see how I felt by keeping a kind of 'conservative' pace. Now I think I could run a marathon in 4 hours... but obviously I need to prove that. :) What would you do differently?: Energy wise I think I did quite well with fueling. I do think that drinking a bit more would have been benefitial though. The day wasn't too hot, and therefore the dehidration effects were not obvious, but I need to think about drinking more often from now on. Besides that... I loved it! Post race
Warm down: Not much... to be honest. I was afraid of getting cold, and we walked home right after we crossed the finish line. Streched a bit at home after the shower... and since we did tons of walking with visting friends in the afternoon I believe that helped a lot. What limited your ability to perform faster: I took this race as a 'team race'... and I don't think we could have done it better Event comments: As always.. the finish line was a bit crowded... and... who the hell wants a 'dry' baggel after a race??? Nothing special: Fill out the Heed bottles of my 'water-belt' (It was the first time I was using it). I decided to run with the small camera to take some pics and movies... end it up being quite funny.
No warm up at all. The start line was very crowded and we focused on finding a 'decent' place to start. With more than 4000 people ranning I think the area where the race was starting was pretty narrow.
