Swim
Comments: Terrible navigation, never found any feet because I zig-zagged 2/3 of the way. What would you do differently?: Stick to my race plan about sighting every 4-6 strokes instead of every 10. Transition 1
Comments: Aside from the fact that my transistion gear got "repositioned" under my bike prohibiting me from pulling the bike straight off the bar, my T1 was flawless. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: I felt this bike time was OK considering my road bike did not have a racing setup at this point. Was passed by a handful of people and also passed a couple. Only real mistake was a big one that I would find out later. Olivier caught me at mile 14, right in front of the only good climb. My competitive nature got the best of me as I came out of the saddle and hammered the hill at his pace. My legs never recovered. What would you do differently?: Relax and take the climb at a more moderate pace. Transition 2
Comments: Could not get my helmet unbuckled. What would you do differently?: Unbuckle my helmet like a sane person and not rush it so much. Run
Comments: My legs were fried from the bike and it was hot and humid at this point. My legs didn't come around until 2 miles into the run. My legs never felt "good" the entire time, it was 100% pain tolerance. Running is usually my stronger of the 3 disciplines. I feel I left at least 1:30 to 2:00 out on the course due to my mistake on the bike. I routinely run my brick runs around 7:00-7:05 min/mile. What would you do differently?: Take more water at the aid stations to cool me off. Post race
Warm down: Jumped in the lake, chatted with friends and family. What limited your ability to perform faster: Dumb mistakes, but thats all apart of learning. Just need to prepare myself mentally to not make them again. This is the first race of the year for me (2nd ever) and its just a building block for IMFL09. Event comments: Despite my poor race, I still had a great time racing with friends and being cheered on by my family/friends/spectators. Went home and had a hot 2 hr bike ride.
