Pre-race routine:

Get up at 5, get ready to go. Bagel and cream cheese, G2, water. Wound up not taking enough bathroom time into account - my stomach is always torn up on race morning, but I wound up having to take 2 immodiums to slow my roll this day. Anyways, wound up getting to transition a little later than I would have liked but it really ended up not mattering because the race was delayed due to rain, thunder, and lightening. Honestly, I'm a little surprised that they let us race in that kind of weather.
Event warmup:

Out and back about 50 yards, dynamic stretching on the beach. Then race delayed and all warming up went to nada because it was cold and raining and we were all just standing around in the sand shivering.
Swim
  • 05m 59s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 30s / 100 yards
Comments:

I smashed my Athena competitors, but I felt like it could have been stronger. It was a fist fight all the way from start to finish because of the small area and the staggered start.
What would you do differently?:

Focus better.
Transition 1
  • 02m 53s
Comments:

T1 went as fine as could be expected I guess considering the rain.
What would you do differently?:

Pray harder for no rain!

Comments:

Went about 2.5 miles when I got a flat. I stood there for probably about 5 minutes in disbelief and also really I wasn't sure what to do. Several people said they would send someone after me. I assumed that meant that a race person was going to come give me a ride. I've never had this happen before so I was really rather confused about the procedure at this point. Finally I realized it was just time to start walking. For some reason in my state of anger/shock/humiliation/frustration I for the life of me could not figure our where I should walk back. On the left side or right side of the road. I know I'm retarded. Let's just say that it only took a few angry screaming cyclist to figure out my place in life. After walking about a mile and a half I caught a ride with this girl back to transition. I was glad because my feet were hurting from walking in the bike shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Get new effing tires. :(

Warm down:

Crying into my husband's shoulder about how much this sucks.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A stupid freaking flat tire!!

Event comments:

Oh, somehow I wound up still getting 3 out of 4 in the Athena category. They gave me some sort of estimated finish time. Mine was 2:04:19. And the last chick in Athena to finish was 2:05:09. Really not sure how they came up with that time. Some of my buddies thought it was HILARIOUS that I beat someone without finishing the race. Anyways, very sucky race. And I kinda just want to forget it ever happened.

That 400 yards was way less because we lost a buoy to the wind.
