Pre-race routine:

Up at about 4:30. Had some coffee and a bagel with pb and j. Had most everything together the night before so not much to do. Got to the race about 6:30 to pick up packets and get set up. Lots of people and the weather was starting to get nicer and nicer.
Event warmup:

Easy jogging around the transition/start area just to get the legs warm
Run
  • 23m 40s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run, didn't feel like I was going this fast, but I guess I was. Didn't feel too bad getting on the bike either.
What would you do differently?:

Get more toward the front of the pack at the start. Had to negotiate around lots of people.
Transition 1
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

Had a little trouble with my bike shoes but overall the transition went well.
What would you do differently?:

Loosen the straps on my bike shoes a bit more to make them easier to get on.

Comments:

I think the Cherry Creek roads need to be repaved. They have patched them so many times, that there are some really bumpy areas. It was nice to get out of the park and on the dam road, it was strait and smooth. The head wind picked up after the turn around and made things a bit more difficult but not terrible. Need to practice drinking from the aero position. I get a little nervous reaching down for that bottle and really need to water.
What would you do differently?:

Practice drinking from aero position.
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

Good T2, getting the running shoes back on went fine.
What would you do differently?:

learn to get out of shoes with them still clipped into pedals. Makes it more easy to run with the bike.
Run

  • 3.11 miles

Comments:

Legs felt like complete garbage for this run. I could swear that I was doing about a 10:00 pace...if i was lucky! They started to feel better after about mile 1 but still not great.
What would you do differently?:

More bike run bricks to get used to that crappy feeling in my legs.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching and walking around.

Event comments:

Can't complain about 2nd in my AG. Last season, 4th seemed to be my place...nice to see some progress. Gotta keep it up now! I even won a raffle prize, a pair of crocs and some hammer drink mix. Nice!!
