Swim
Comments: Not a great swim for me. On the first dive in I knocked my goggles a little and the left one started filling with water. Swam a little further and ended up flipping over to let out the water. After that I tried to get into a good rythm and just could not find it. I think my wetsuit is too small because I just felt like it was squeezing everything out of me and I just could not get fluid. Swim does include a probably 200 yard run from water to T1 entrance. What would you do differently?: Not really sure. This is usually by far my strongest leg and I am just not happy with it. Transition 1
Comments: With the wind and temps I decided prerace that I was going to wear a jacket as I was FREEZING after the swim. I pulled the sleeves inside out with the thought of that helping me to get the jacket on. WRONG. It took me forever to get the suit on, then I could not get my glasses on, and finally I had to put my suit and stuff in a bag as this is a point to point race and they need to transport the T1 stuff to the finish. What would you do differently?: Not put on a jacket. Bike
Comments: After the debacle in T1 I just wanted to get on the bike and get going. The wind was out of the NW and a large portion of this course headed north to northwest to west. Headed out and learned immediately that this ride was going to be rough. I think is was too windy for the trispokes, but I couldn't do anything about it by the time I figured that out. First 6-8 miles are all North-Northwest into the wind. At times the wind was deafening it was so loud. Dropped my chain about 4 miles in, right in front of a farm that had a Donkey out which made me laugh. Finally got settled in about 9 miles in on the only portion that was with the wind. Really amazed with the amount of hills on this ride. I have been doing a good bit of riding on hills, but this ride makes those look like childs play. Last 7 miles of the ride were good and I finally had some fun and passed back all but 4 of the 10 people that passed me throught the ride. What would you do differently?: Not ride in winds like this. Transition 2
Comments: This was just average. Should have been faster, but by this point I was just trying to have fun. Run
Comments: This is usually the part that I dread the most, but I have to say I am INCREDIBLY happy with this run. Original plan was to shoot for 9:00 average just based on where my running is. Started off and was in the low 7:00 at the beginning, but dialed that back as quick as I could. Was holding in the 8:00's for a while and that felt really good, and in fact I kept slipping faster. So I just went with it as the legs were holding up. Even though I lost a lot of spots on the run I am happier with this than any of the other parts of the race. What would you do differently?: Not much. Maybe not overdue it early in the season and get hurt. Post race
Warm down: Walk around, get some food and sit and relax. What limited your ability to perform faster: Wind and hills. Event comments: This was a well run race. Don't know if I will do it again as I am not a fan of the point to point, but would like to try the course again without the winds. Last updated: 2009-04-20 12:00 AM

Woke up at 6:00 and ate some PB and Honey. I had dropped off my bike and running gear the night before, so all I needed was my helmet, shoes and swimming stuff. Loaded the car and headed out to the race. I knew from the moment I woke up this was going to be a tough race. Temps in the low 40's and winds out of the NW around 20Mph gusting to 30Mph. Got everything set up in T1 and found pjgrande and chatted with her for a while.
Took the bike out for a short ride to try to get used to the wind with the trispokes. First time out on them this year in this type of wind, so I was a little worried about handling. About 10 minutes before the start I jumped in and swam a little to try to warm up, but that was just not going to happen with the water being 62.
