Pre-race routine:

Not much of a routine, a late shift the night before threw me off a little. My pre-race nutrition was poor.
Event warmup:

A light swim and light ride before the start.
Swim
  • 07m 50s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

The was my first triathlon swim where I was not held back by very slow traffic and I swam a little faster than I should have for the first half. I have to remember to do just to my thing and swim my pace.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, maybe slow down a hair for the first half so the last half is a little easier.
Transition 1
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

My rubber band for my shoes broke before I got on the bike and jumping on in the gravel did not go well so I was slowed down a little with the transition.
What would you do differently?:

Prepare better
Bike
  • 46m 5s
  • 13.4 miles
  • 17.45 mile/hr
Comments:

OMG!! I was not prepared to ride in such a horrid wind. The wind was out of the south and I was told by a volunteer that the wind speed averaged 34mph and I believe it. I would have believed 54 mph all the same. That was awful and it slowed me down a great deal. It was hard, it also kept me cool though.
What would you do differently?:

Prepare better and train harder for the wind.
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

The transition went well and everything I practiced seemed to go well for me. I think this will get easier with each race but I was pleased today.
What would you do differently?:

Move more quickly getting the helmet off so its ready when I get to the rack.
Run
  • 30m 24s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

I was slower than my tri last week but I was more tired coming off of the bike and the hills and wind didn't help any either. Overall, the run was ok and I stayed under my max time goal. Bottom line, it was a nice run in the park on a beautiful day with great athletes.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster ;)
Post race
Warm down:

To warm down I just stoppd and ate :) A short walk and some stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The wind was my only setback. I need to learn better pre race nutrition habits.

Event comments:

The only reason I say this was too hard for my abilities is 1) I am a new athlete and my abilities are not that great and 2) That wind was just awful! The post race had Subway subs and plenty of snacks and places to sit and hang with friends. There was a vendor to buy some things you may have forgot and a bike mechanic. I had a good time, next year I'm bringing sunscreen and stronger legs. I learned a lot from this race and that's always a win.

Course: The run was a nice trail run (mostly) in the park protected from the high winds (until the end). The gravel was a little easier on the knees and coming back from a January injury I was happy because this was my first run with no pain since then, that's good enough for me.
