Run
Comments: Wow, it was a hot one. Thermometer read 72 degrees at 7:30am. I felt surprisingly good through mile 17. Then the wheels started coming off... It was HOT, there were tons of hills, the wind was blowing and my body was hurting - a lot. I knew my toes were in serious trouble around mile 21. After mile 22 it became a simple test of fierce determination as my body made it very clear that it had had enough. Once I cleared the bridge for the second time it was an excruciating mile or so more to the finish. WOW, I did it!! What would you do differently?: Simply put: train more. Post race
Warm down: I really didn't anything cool down. I drank some Poweraide and hung out with friends in the finish area. By then, my friends had checked us out of our hotel room so I had no where to go for a shower/change of clothes. I chatted for about an hour in the finsh area and then hopped in the car for the 6 hour drive back to Michigan. Ouch. I won't be doing that again... What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat, hills and insufficient training. Event comments: In all honestly, I wasn't properly trained for this distance. It was a risky endeavor considering all that I have on my race schedule for this season. In the end, I came out better for it as I now KNOW that it is a distance to be respected. I have much more work to do and aside from my angry toes, my body is recovering nicely. Last updated: 2009-04-24 12:00 AM

Woke up and got into my race clothes. Coffee and a Powerbar for breakfast then off to catch the shuttle with my friend who was doing the half. Nervous. No, I take that back... scared.
Stretching while in the start corral.
