Swim
Comments: I had a pretty good swim. I made the mistake of swimming the night before, so I think it may have come back to haunt me even though I only did 4-5 laps. I did however do a time trial of sorts the wednesday before the race and I swam this distance in 4:18, a little faster than I wanted to swim at the race. Anyways, I don't think I have the endurance to be swimming like I was the wednesday before the race. Ditto on the bike. What would you do differently?: Not burn myself out during the week lead-up. After about 2 laps, I knew I wasn't as fresh as I had been earlier that week. Transition 1
Comments: I droppped my helmet and my sunglasses kind of rolled away, so that slowed me down a bit. I think I need to practice my transition with my feet wet to simulate putting socks on with wet feet. What would you do differently?: practice my transitions more than just the night before. Bike
Comments: I actually felt really good about the bike. I came off of it feeling pretty fresh, the only time I really felt any burn was coming back up into the city. I kept my cadence high enough that it didn't really take much out of my legs. Way to go support by the way. As I went by them, I said "you guys are crazy coming all the way out here!", they usually laughed and kept cheering people on, because they were really out in the rural area. What would you do differently?: Drink ALOT more. I didn't hydrate well before the race, so my problem was compounded by the fact that it was 85 degrees outside and I didn't really like drinking because it bothered my stomach. Transition 2
Comments: I have platform pedals on my bike, so this transition was a breeze. All I had to do was hop off my bike and take my helmet off, and I was running, because I already my shoes on. What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: Wow, I just bonked on this one. All of my stomach and dehydration issues hit me like a Mack truck on this sucker... wow, and to think I would've considered myself as more of a runner before the race. What would you do differently?: Drink Post race
Warm down: Pass out on the sidewalk, then walked over and drank a sunkist, a 20oz bottle of water, and another sunkist. I stretched a little bit and rode my bike around to find the other racers from Liberty U. What limited your ability to perform faster: Having the stomach bug and not being well hydrated. Event comments: Very good race, I would recommend it to lots of people. All of the volunteers and the great finish make it an awesome race. Last updated: 2009-04-27 12:00 AM

I got up around 5:45 and had a half of a bagel and a granola bar. I drove to the race and set up my transition.
The whole week before I had been struggling with my stomach. It felt like it was in knots, and I was cramping up whenever I ran, so I kind of fought the
I did a couple of laps in the warm-up pool before the race started, and felt pretty good.
