Swim
Comments: I thought I gave a very solid effort today. I had no issues with nerves and I had no major kicks in the head or anything like that, which is why I am surprised my time was pretty poor. Course may have been a little long. Neverthless I positioned myself well and preserved enough energy for the rest of the race. Very uneventful. Was 7:22 out of the water and ran to the mat. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was a long run from the water to the transition area through some gravel. I was 57th in T1 so I lost some time in this area. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Once we got out on the road it started to rain pretty consistenly with occasional thunder. I didn't notice the rain too much on the ride other than some foggy glasses. This was a fantastic ride for me. It took me about two miles to find a pace that was fast but still comfortable and I stuck with that gear the whole race. This course was paper flat like nothing I ride in training so it was nice to ride in the same gear the whole race. I didn't pass many riders and held my posiion in the overall standings. I passed the kid in my age group who came out of the water first so I knew I had to hold the lead on the run. I slowed a little on the final mile or so as we weaved back into the park, but overall this was easily the best ride of my short racing career. I felt like I belonged up in the front. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: Much better transition for me. Fiddled with hat for 1-2 seconds but other than that I felt good about this. I think the practice earlier in the week was very beneficial - 26th best time. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I'm a runner at heart so I really wanted to finish this race with an exclamation and a good time. I really pushed it out of transition and through the first mile. I ended up running right behind the leading two women who were battling for position. I stayed confident on this run and made sure to hold form throughout. It was raining during the run too so I kept cool. Didn't drink much and didn't have to battle with my nutrition like usual. It was a methodica race for the most part and I just kept the machine going. I don't want to say I wasn't hurting, but this felt easy. I knew I was having a great run and was physced when I saw I ran sub 20! In fact this time ties my stand along 5k PR! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Got some warm clothes on and hid from the rain. What limited your ability to perform faster: Rainy conditions. Event comments: I came into this race more trained than I have ever been and I had bests in bike and run times so I have no complaints. This was my first age group win in a triathlon so that was a really cool expirience. I like sprint triathlons a lot because you have to push yourself but also know your limits. I think I have room to improve in the swim and transitions, but this was a good race. Last updated: 2009-05-05 12:00 AM

Woke up right before my alarm at 430 and watched some Sportscenter. I showered and got some food before leaving for the race. Legs felt rested from a really easy week of training so I guess you could say I "tapered" for this race.
Quick jog and half a GU.
