Swim
Comments: Started on the outside left to avoid the crowds. All in all it was an uneventful swim. Drafted some when I could, but not consistently. I felt comfortable, working at a good pace, but not working particularly hard. Transition 1
Comments: 3 of 82. My ankle got a bit caught when removign the wetsuit, which cost a few seconds. Overall good. What would you do differently?: Cut another inch off the bottom of the wetsuit. Bike
Comments: I felt fairly strong during the ride and am a bit surprised and disappointed I was a full minute slower than my goal. Maybe I didn't push it as much as I could have. Got passed by 4 guys in my AG. What would you do differently?: Need another year of good training, maybe more intervals to build strength. Transition 2
Comments: 4th of 82. 4th of 82 combined transition time. I came into T2 a bit too fast and lost control of the bike somewhat when doing the moving dismount to run. I think one of the shoes hit the ground, causing the bike to jump while I was on my first strides. The dismount area was quite narrow and I buzzed a guy doing a slow dismount. Sorry... What would you do differently?: Go a bit slower at the dismount line. Run
Comments: The temperature was probably in the low 80s at this point, but not overwhelming. First mile at 7:36, a pace I was pleased with. Second mile at 7:07 so I assumed the mileage marker was wrong. I didn't get another split for some time until the second loop when I ran a 7:47 for the same marker that I thought was wrong on the first loop. I guess I just went too fast on the first loop and slowed down a lot on the second. About a minute from my goal. Overall this was a good run for me. I still think of the run as my weakest link in triathlon, and I still expect to get passed by people in my AG (4 this time). I probably didn't pace it right, but I still felt fairly strong at the end. I got passed by a guy in my AG with about a minute to go, and I hung onto him and sprinted to the finish in an attempt to repass him. If I were smarter and had passed him on the inside turn going into the finishing chute I think I would have got him. Regardless, I was able to sprint strong to the finish this time whereas in previous races I had nothing left. What would you do differently?: Learn to even split a 10k run. I think I'd be faster than starting fast and fading. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Just need to train more and smarter! Event comments: An excellent and competitive race! I'll go back whenever my schedule allows! Last updated: 2009-05-05 12:00 AM

2009 Stretch Goal (vs 2008), written 2 weeks before race
Swim: 26:30 (26:20; 1:46)
T1: 2:45 (2:51)
Bike: 1:06:30 (1:09:44) 22.4 mph (21.4 mph)
T2: 2:00 (1:59)
Run: 48:00 (51:14) 7:44 (8:15)
Total:2:25:45 (2:32:15)
My swim shape isn't has good as last year, but I should be faster on the bike (1 mph?) and faster on the run (if I don't melt in the heat again). I should be also be able to take a few seconds out of T1 if I can figure how to remove my wetsuit w/o it getting stuck on the ankles...

Swam a few minutes to get shoulders loose.
