Swim
Comments: Was an okay swim. Followed the wrong guy at the start which led me away from the buoy and towards one of the safety crew boats. Sighted about 100 meters in and corrected my course. Kept running into a guy that would breaststroke to sight and got kicked on my arms and side a few times. Remainder of swim was pretty uneventful and got out feeling only a little out of breath. What would you do differently?: See below in my post race comments. Transition 1
Comments: Was happy with transition. Could have been a bit quicker, though. Did forget to get the bike computer out of sleep mode while running out of transition. What would you do differently?: Remember to do get the computer out of sleep mode before leaving transition. Bike
Comments: This was my first race with my new bike. Felt okay but wet roads hindered my cornering. This was the first time I'd ridden on wet roads using my new bike. I wasn't confident with the tires' cornering abilities. Was able to pass a several people that came out of the swim ahead of me. What would you do differently?: See below in my post race comments. Get more time on the new bike. Transition 2
Comments: Getting a rack spot near the bike start/finish helps with reducing the time and distance I had to run with my bike shoes. What would you do differently?: Keep practicing. Run
Comments: I'm skeptical of the run distance as there was no way I was running the pace I'm credited as running. I was very slow and was passed by a bunch of people. Lack of training and my chest congestion finally caught up to me (see my post race comments). What would you do differently?: See below in my post race comments. Post race
Warm down: Took in some fluids and had a banana and orange slice. Walked around. What limited your ability to perform faster: This race definitely showed me what happens when you're unable to train due to illness. I am still recovering from a bout with the flu the last week of April and haven't done any physical exercise except to walk my dog. Event comments: I've been pleased with both races I've done at MCB. The marines who "volunteered" at each race would smile as you passed by or give you an encouraging word. I'd certainly do more races held on this base. Last updated: 2009-05-09 12:00 AM

Had a bagel with peanut butter, a banana, and a cup of coffee. Arrived at the base early enough to get a good rack position. Talked to my rack mates.
Walked around and stretched.
