Swim
Comments: Started a little too quickly. First section was into a little bit of chop. Very little body contact which made me happy. Rounded the bouy and tried to draft but was unable to. Had a nice rhythm for the rest of the swim but felt that I did not have a good line, sometimes I was on the inside and on some sections I was out wide. What would you do differently?: I need to learn how to pick out somebody to draft off and practice drafting. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit got stuck which takes a little time. I also need to get triathlon cycling shoes so that I can go sockless and get up to speed and into shoes. Bike
Comments: This was a great course. There were hills, but they were of the rolling kind and I could stay in the big chainring the whole way. The intersections were almost all right handed and well controlled. I set as a goal never letting my cadence get below 80 and for the most part succeeded. This is normally my weak leg but felt that I did better than I normally do. The course was anything but crowded and there were some nice shady sections. Spacing of bottle hand-offs was great and I felt properly hydrated. What would you do differently?: Nothing. My cycling needs to improve but that is a long term goal and there was nothing I could have done differently on the day. Transition 2
Comments: I would be quicker if I ran without socks and had quick laces but that hasn't felt like a priority up to this point. Run
Comments: Each time that I ran up a hill on the first lap I had the horrible thought that I would see that hill two more times. That being said it was not an overly difficult course and the set up of watering tables was good. It was starting to get hot and humid by run time and I felt properly hydrated. There was a small shady section which made a welcome relief. What would you do differently?: Nothing really Post race
Warm down: A swim in the lake. What limited your ability to perform faster: Slow transitions. Need to improve on the bike and possibly make the investment and get race wheels. Event comments: Given that the race is in the middle of nowhere they did a good job of getting volunteers. The volunteers worked hard and run and bike aid stations were set up at the right places. Things were on time, post race food was good, results were posted on site very soon after the end and full results were on the website by mid-afternoon. Pretty impressive organization. Woke up at 4.15. Had bagel and tea and left the house at about 4.40. The ride over was fine and arrived at site at about 6. Collected packet and then went back to car and set everything up. No idea why but I ended up being a little rushed in setting up in transition. Made worse by the fact that some inconsiderate soul had taken my designated space on the rack. A little flustered by that, but found a space on the next rack.
Short of time and so just managed to get wet. Did not really bother me as I don't do a warmup before a long event. I prefer to save my energy.
