Swim
Comments: I had an emotional breakdown watching my 14 year old daughter take off in wave 2. I was so proud of her doing this for the first time. It took me a good 15 minutes to compose myself and take some deep breaths. Fortunately my wave was 21 minutes after she took off. I had a good swim...no major bunch ups or crowding. I maintained a steady (slow) pace, and hoped for a better time, but I am happy with what I did. Transition 1
Comments: Transition was a long distance from the swim exit, over sand, pavement, bark chips and grass. Due to a ruptured plantar fascia this winter, I am not able to walk barfoot, so I left my crocs at the special needs table at the swim exit. Overall I am happy with my time, given the obstacles we were given. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I was happy with my bike. Top 11% overall. I wasn't expecting the hills, as past years this race was pancake flat. Some of the no pass zones did not need to be. These should be reduced or eliminated as much as possible in the future. What would you do differently?: Practice mounting and dismounting faster. I am very very cautious, and slow to clip in. I definitely can improve in this area. Transition 2
Comments: Nothing special...always could be faster. Run
Comments: I have not been able to do any run training since January, and got the cast off my leg 8 weeks ago. I am pleased I was able to run as much as I did, and just jogged slowly and alternated with walking. I had some foot pain, but mostly discomfort in my right hip and shin (opposite side from my injured foot). What would you do differently?: I could not have had a better run at this stage in my recovery. I now can work on training and not worry about injuring myself prior to an out of state race. Post race
Warm down: Met up with the rest of my tri team and my daughter. Got some food while we waited for transition to open back up. Rode back to the hotel. What limited your ability to perform faster: Foot injury affected my ability to train for the run. Next year should be better. Event comments: It was great having so many people there from our tri team there participating. Our coach was awesome to bring our bikes down for us and help us prep for the race. Woke up at 4:30. Ate saltines with peanut butter and drank a smoothie. Walked 1 mile from our resort to the race.
Not much...just focused on getting transition area set and helping my 14 year old daughter get ready as this was her first sprint triathlon.
