![]() Swim
Comments: This was a good swim, the earlier waves did not seem to be pushed by the current so i lined up pretty much dead on. No problem getting past the breakers, sighted well. I think the swim was long, it felt long anyway. What would you do differently?: When I race I breathe every stroke, and it is to the right.I need to practice breathing to the left. It was more difficult to sight without seeing the beach and the waves were breaking on the side that I was breathing on. Managed to be 1st in my AG on the swim! ![]() Transition 1
Comments: No transition times! Too bad, I think they were pretty quick. ![]() Bike
Comments: Fun bike, the first loop my legs were a little sore so I felt like I had no power. I knew where I was with people from Wilmington in my AG, but did not see anyone else so I did not know where I was. On the second loop I knew where a couple of guys were based on seeing them on the first run, so I tried to keep up with them on the bike. My second bike loop was 1 minute faster than the first. What would you do differently?: Not sure, pretty good bike for me. ![]() Transition 2
![]() Run
Comments: Felt slow on the first run, felt like I had no legs. I had forgotten how far you had to run on the beach, but there was some nice hard pack sand to run on. On the second run there were 3 of us that left in a dead heat, so I just tried to hang on. There was the guy in the Navy tri-suit that came by at a good pace and showed no signs of slowing, then there was the Raleigh tr-guy in front of me. He did not pick up the pace when Navy went past so I figured that maybe if I could stay right on his heels I could get by him at the end. We both started to pick it up with about 1/4 mile left, and I could not close the gap. The difference was 2 seconds! What would you do differently?: Who knows, 2 seconds.... I'm sure I could have found that somewhere. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Stretched, walked around a bit. Found my wife and cheered on some fellow tri-clubbers What limited your ability to perform faster: Good race for me. Event comments: Love this race, this is the only race I have ever placed at, small field but I'll take it. It was fun being so close to the other guys in my age group. When I look at the times we were within 10-15 seconds for most of the race. I missed first by 2 seconds!!! Of course the penalty that Navy guy got helped:) Last updated: 2009-05-12 12:00 AM

Wokr up at 4:45, had some coffee and a pb sandwich and drove up to Surf City, it's only about a 45 minute drive. Picked up my race packet, checked out the surf and hung out for a while.
Ran about 1 mile, decided not to warm up in the water, I decided not to risk getting discouraged before the swim start.
